A Taste of Mexico
By Meiling Xiao
If you are on the run, short of time or need a quick snack, Chipotle is the place for you to have a quick lunch or dinner. Chipotle is a chain of Mexican fast-casual dining restaurants that focus on offering burritos, bowls, salad and tacos. The products are using fresh and organic ingredients to make sure customers are eating healthy. Chipotle Mexican Grill was founded by Steve Ells in 1993 in Colorado with the aim of providing excellent quality fast-food items that are made from fresh and premium ingredients(Brand). Until now, there are about 1,755 Chipotle restaurants in America. The one that closest to our campus, which is located in MetroTech Center. It can be appreciated and enjoyed by all customers because of its location, simple straightforward menu price, and high-quality ingredients.
Chipotle is located in the MetroTech Center. It attracts many people by its location. Chipotle opens at 11:00 am to 10:00 pm for every day. From our campus, it is about three blocks to get there. When you exit campus, you need to turn right, which is heading south on Jay St toward Johnson St, for one block. Then you need to turn left toward Lawrence St for one block, and turn right onto Lawrence St. The restaurant is on the right side head of the road. You may need to walk about five minutes during this process. If your time is short, this is convenient for you in hungry and need hurry up to eat to get back to class. Students will appreciate the price of the food because everything is affordable.
Chipotle offers an opportunity to make your order to your taste. This means that you can match the meal by yourself. There is no settled menu provided. You can control your meal by picking different ingredients you want. The restaurant is set up like Subway; customers walk down the line of food options and tell the server what they’d like in their burrito, taco, salad or bowl. Chipotle offers pork, beef, chicken and steak; brown and white rice; pinto and black beans; various salsas; cheese, sour cream, corn, guacamole, and lettuce, etc. I highly recommend the chicken taco with cheese, guacamole, sour cream, black beans, and lettuce. I was satisfied with it when the first time I ate at Chipotle; the chicken is juicy and tasty. Moreover, you can watch the food being prepared in the open kitchen, which is fun and interactive. Furthermore, Chipotle is a fantastic option for vegans and food allergens. Chipotle doesn’t use eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, sesame, shellfish, or fish as ingredients in the food. It provides an opportunity for every customer to enjoy its food.
Chipotle attracts customers by its high-quality ingredients. It has a conscience about the food it serves and food supply. In 2001, Chipotle released a mission statement called “Food with Integrity”, which highlights its focus on using only pure and organic ingredients and serves the customers with naturally raised meat(Barne). According to the article “ Chipotle Mexican Grill” by Lauren LaRocca, it says, “They use meat that hasn’t been injected with antibiotics. They use local vegetables at least part of the time, organic beans, and milk that’s not genetically modified!” This means the ingredients used in Chipotle are unaffected and uncontaminated. Every ingredient is naturally and humanely raised. It makes the food healthier and taste better. All ingredients are hand made to ensure the ingredients stay fresh. Every morning, employees spend about four hours chopping and prepping ingredients ahead of the lunch hour.(Nassauer) This is the reason why I go by Chipotle at 8:00 am, there are some employees inside the restaurant preparing the food, although it is not the serving time.
Even though Chipotle has many good qualities, some people think Chipotle is unsafe because it had a foodborne illness outbreak recently. Several weeks ago, there was a foodborne illness called Ecoli outbreak in Chipotle in the northwest restaurant which include the areas of Seattle, Washington, Portland, and Oregon. Since the foodborne illness outbreak. Many people are refusing to eat in Chipotle. But the Ecoli outbreak was only in the Northwest, not the Northeast regions of the country. According to the Chipotle official website, it says, “ The company has taken important steps to make sure that food is as safe as before. Also, the health officials have concluded that there is no ongoing risk from this incident and there are no confirmed links to any other Chipotle restaurants and no reports of related illnesses elsewhere”. It means the company has control the spread of the foodborne illness. You may not need to worry further. In addition, I believe after this incident, the company will take a number of steps to ensure the safety of food served in all Chipotle restaurants. Therefore, you can feel relieved to eat at Chipotle.
In short, Chipotle is a place that I would recommend as a good, cheap, nutrition place to eat. It’s food uses high quality, fresh ingredients that are hand made. Customers can select what they want in their orders and everything taste good.
