How does emergency preparedness training effect mortality rates in the United States?

What would you do if someone close-by began to experience a fatal medical issue? In the United States emergency preparedness training can aide in the first-line treatment of four of the top five leading causes of death. Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), the Heimlich Maneuver, Epinephrine Injection Pen, and Naloxone (Narcan) are all simple but effective treatments/techniques that many bystanders can learn and apply when in an emergency situation. The appropriate, immediate application of these can be the difference between the life and death of a loved one. Researchers found that the willingness of bystanders to perform emergency medical interventions can result in an increase in the victim’s chance of survival. In a modern society such as this, it is important for bystanders to be well equipped to deal with any emergency situations even if they themselves are not a professional in the medical field.
