I was really nervous to give in my essay for peer revision only because I feel my essays are never good. Surprisingly my peers didn’t give me as much negative feedback as I was expecting. They even said they enjoyed it and it has a good flow, that they knew what I was talking about and there was no confusion. Some things that need to be fixed is my topic sentence in my introduction, it needs to be stronger because it’s a typical statement. I have some statements that are unnecessary and need to be taken out. Overall I definitely need to make my essay longer because more information can be added to make it a stronger essay. This peer revision was very helpful, I never doubted it wouldn’t be helpful because I used to do them all the time in high school. It was helpful to hear other people’s thoughts on my essay, it was very helpful.

After reading my own essay, what my peers said was clear. My essay is very short. I feel my point is clear but there is definitely way more that can be added. I definitely need to use more examples from the articles I’m using. I also don’t have any personal experiences in my essay and that is needed. I saw I had one sentence but I need to elaborate on that. I believe when I do that my essay will become more stronger and make my point more clear.

Visions Of Well-being for NYC

On primary night in 2013 both Bill De Blasio and Joe Lhota came out and gave their speech, both hoping for the win. Each candidate came out and told every one about who they are, their family and what are their plans as Mayor of NYC. Bill De Blasio is the man every one is able to relate to because he is a family man, he even had his daughter introduce him before he spoke and his son has helped throughout the whole campaign and thanked his wife for being his best friend and biggest supporter. As Bill De Blasio gave his speech he had a way of trying to make every one in NYC sound like one big happy family. He wants us all to work together and be there for one another as you would your own family. He hopes for change that will benefit every one. Bill De Blasio believes education is very important for the children so they can have a better future and actually have a chance at a good life. He is also not for the stop and frisk because it has become to a point of just racial profiling. Finally the wealthy should contribute more to society considering they have more than the others around them.

When Joe Lhota gave his speech on primary night it had some similarities to Bill De Blasio. Joe Lhota’s family is important to him as well introducing his wife and daughter as his foundation, his strength, his source of energy and how he would not be standing there without them. Both candidates take family very seriously and definitely want to make sure that everyone knows that. Joe Lhota spoke of keeping NYC safer, having a better education for children by improving schools which can lead to having good paying jobs in the future. Both candidates were in agreement with those points. They both spoke about stop and frisk as well. Joe Lhota is for it because he believes it will make NYC safer while Bill De Blasio is not for it because he says it leads to racial profiling. Overall both candidates want the people to have a good life and surprisingly they had more similarities than differences in the speeches.

In class we have been discussing the different types of happiness. No one really knows what consists of the true meaning of happiness for an individual but the government definitely plays a role in what they believe contributes to the happiness of the New Yorkers. In both of the speeches made by Bill De Blasio and John Lhota they both discuss education, safety and well paying jobs. Those seem to be the main ones that will increase in the happiness and well being of others. Education is definitely important so that their is a chance for people to learn and later on in the future use the skills they’ve learned to be able to have a well paying job. Making NYC a safer place will definitely increase in the happiness and well being of others. So much crime is committed daily and if it even went down a little can make a huge difference and will allows other to feel safer living in it. Having a well paying job is something that is a big part of someones happiness because this job is what allows them to pay their rent, their expenses, things they need etc.. Overall is for the people of NYC to work together and become stronger are believed by these two candidates will make our world a better place.

In the article, “How to Buy Happiness” by Sonja Lyubomirsky it talks about the relationship between money and happiness. It states it matters more how we spend our money then how much we possess. Money does provide us with certain opportunities, luxury, status, respect, a better job etc but this happiness does not always last for so long. It’s almost as if we are programmed to believe the more money we have the happier we are. But even the person with the most money can be the most miserable.

Rather than going out and buying a new pair of shoes, let’s go on out and buy an experience! Experiences with friends and family can last a lifetime. Material things are exciting for that one moment but soon the excitement starts to die out. But with an experience those memories will live on with you and will allow you to relive it with the people you experienced them with. These experiences will also allow us to not compare them to others because people tend to compare their lives to others.

Spending money on others and on need-satisfying goals can increase one’s happiness. Spending money on others allows someone to do something for someone other than themselves. Spending money on need-satisfying goals may be something they’ve been wanting to do for themselves that will benefit them greatly in the future or spending money in order to do something for someone else, such as charity. Also having time to do all these things would help in creating these experiences and having time to do all these things.

If only money could actually buy us happiness. It’s not about how much money we have but what we do with it matters so much more.

Can money buy true happiness?

In the article, “How to buy happiness” by Elizabeth Dunn and Michael Norton, it states how money relates to our happiness. I think we all can agree and say money can bring us happiness. I know every time I receive my check a big smile comes on my face. I also know that happiness does not last for long. It will last for that moment but later on it goes away. This article tells us managing our money is a good way to increase our happiness. In this article it states how people can get more happiness from buying experiences rather than buying material things. This means to get out there and experience things such as trips, concerts, or just having fun with friends can bring so much more happiness rather than going and buying yourself a new pair of shoes. Spending your money on others rather than yourself can bring one happiness. I do agree with this because when I buy someone something and to see how much they loved it makes me happy. You made someone else happy other than yourself. Basically this article is saying to manage your money better so you are able to go out and experience life not only for yourself, but also others and you will be a happier person.
