Hi everyone!
So good to meet you all today, and to get to know a bit about you and your ideas on happiness. I’m going to take photos of your happiness lists and post them to this site for next week 🙂
I know we went through a lot of material quickly at the end of class, so just a few reminders about what needs to happen before our next class on Tuesday (9/2). You should check your homework (as always), on our dynamic course schedule (under Schedule, and then ENG 1101 Schedule).
1. Get an OpenLab account and join our course site. Follow these instructions here. You should do this ASAP (like today, so in case you run into any problems with your e-mail, you can go to the Help Desk).
2. Review the Syllabus & OpenLab Composing rubric & guidelines/expectations, (both of which were also handed out in class), and browse through the rest of the OpenLab site.
3. Make your Introduction post. You can find more info. about what I’m looking for here, and see the post I already made for myself. Here’s info. about posting/categorizing/commenting, and here is info. about adding links, images, and video to your posts.
4. Read “How Happy Are You? A Census Wants to Know” (handed out in class, and also linked from our course schedule online) & blog in response. Check on the Schedule for information about what this post should include (and follow the OpenLab Composing Guidelines).
*All posts are due the night before class, so your Introduction post and your reading response posts (two separate posts) are due no later than Monday night. Make sure to go back and read through the posts before class, and comment on them if you can.
Whew! That’s it for now. I know it seems like a lot to do/learn, but once you get on OpenLab and get the hang of posting, it’s actually simple and fun. Please don’t hesitate to come see me in my office, Namm 520, today (I’ll be around from 1-2:30pm), e-mail me (jbelli@citytech.cuny.edu), or “comment” (click “reply” to this post) if you have any questions. And, most importantly, happy first day of the semester, and enjoy the holiday weekend ahead 🙂
Hello everyone, my name is Tanaye I’m the eldest of two sisters and I am West Indian from a little island call Saint Croix, but I was born in Harlem, NY. Some things I am interested in are shopping, listening to music, skateboarding, writing, reading, but it depends on the book. I have to be into it, but I am also interested in sleeping, cooking, and working not only for making money, but I love helping people. I am a peoples person, energetic, funny, outgoing, I can be shy at times but if someone who I just met saw me the next day and said “ hey Tanaye” I will gladly say hi back. People, also think I am from the south because they say I have an accent, I think that is cool. Sports I like to play are volleyball, softball, and I love watching basketball.
My expectations for first semester is I didn’t intend on coming to City tech, I was initially suppose to go away to Virginia Union University and major in Criminal Justice, but since my mom had surgery I stayed to take care of her because no one else could. However for first semester experiences I know college is not high school. Therefore when I need help in something I need to ask because I tend to not ask for help when I need it, and not to get overwhelmed and stressed because it’s not going to make things any better. I also hope to make and meet new people that will benefit me in life meaning a friend that pushes me and we help each other. My career goal was to become a detective but you have to be a cop first to become a detective and I do not want to be a cop. Therefore my second options was to always be able to become a person who helps abuse kids, and help homeless people off the streets and get them homes.
Over the summer I worked 3 jobs which I’m still doing, but I will be leaving two soon because I want to focus on school. My main priority is gradating and getting my degree because I want to make my mom proud and be a role model for my sisters. Lastly some of my strengths in writing is I discuss something that I mention, before I didn’t do that. My weakness would be grammar and subject verb agreement when I am writing fast. I enjoy writing because it’s where you can express yourself with words and place all your thoughts that you’re thinking. I think I am good with technology because I tend to figure something out that I never experienced before. I think happiness mean when you are fit with who you are meaning in your own skin, you don’t have to be the richest person, but you’re happy because you’re appreciative of what you have and fulfill of life. My expectations for this course is I am already a step ahead because my last year of high school our last course was on happiness and we read a book called happiness, by a guy who taught at Harvard just on happiness and it was really good. Just hope to remain a 3.3 or higher GPA and be engaged.
this was a mistake because i didn’t know how to post it at first my apologies
No worries Tanaye, and glad you figured out posting 🙂
