Foggy Nights

“Learn to appreciate the finer things in life”

It’s something I’ve always try to live by. Instead of fussing and feeling ‘blue’ when it rains, I’m often filled with euphoria. Why? Because I get to be creative with the photos I take.

As some of you may have seen before, I took pictures when it was foggy in daylight. A few months ago my friend I and decided to take advantage of the rain and fog at night.

Views From The Tram

As you all know I have a Phobia for heights. When I started taking photography seriously two years ago, I decided that one of my many goals was to conquer my phobia for heights. So far I’ve been on a few rooftops; ‘the view is to die for’. The tram, I’ve been on many times. Although I still get a bit nervous, the amazing views help get rid of that and of course taking pictures.

The Tram is an aerial tramway that began operation in 1976. It spans in the east river and connects Roosevelt Island to the upper east side of Manhattan. Not run by the MTA but by LPOA (Leitner-Poma of America) . However it’s uses the MetroCard system. If you’re wondering whether it’s the only way to the Island, no it’s not. Mass transit can be used and also other vehicles but why? When you can have fun using the tram.

Upper East Side Skyscrapers

When you hear about New York City, people usually say oh ‘The Big Apple’, ‘Gotham City’, The City That Never Sleeps’ or  ‘Concrete Jungle.’ Why Concrete jungle? Because of the high rise/skyscrapers duh(lol). Although nature is always a breath of fresh air, just seeing those skyscrapers is always breath taking. Its even better when it’s view through the lens(camera).

Another goal of mine this year is attempt to take aerial shots. Note I said attempt because I’m afraid of heights but I’ll like to believe that, slowly I’m getting over it.

Up Close And Personal

Friends  are easy to come by, but maintaining that relationship is another story.

One of my goals this year is to take more portraits of friends and strangers. Strangers? Yes! What’s the worst they can say? No? Well I’ll take my chances

With photography it allows you to get acquainted with so many people who will eventually become your friends or even best friends. One of my good friends who happens to be a photographer once told me, in order to take ones portrait, its easier to build a friendship with them first, in that way they will be more comfortable with you taking their picture. Apart from photography, most times you realize you both have much more in common and can learn from each other.

Here’s a few shots with some of my photography friends, good friends if I may add(lol).

Free Activities

A few days ago a colleague and I were talking about how there are many free or inexpensive activities in New York City. However, the tourists are actually the ones who take advantage of them more than the locals. There’s even an “IDNYC” card you can sign for and get a free one-year membership for a curated list of cultural institutions in New York.

Last year was my first time taking the Staten Island ferry during sunset, believe it or not. Recently I went back again, but this time with a few friends which was an amazing experience as always.

Life Under

I’m not an animal lover but I do love fishes and dolphins. I think they are such loving creatures, well some. You’ll be surprise to know that I had a dog as a child and sure we loved each other but from a distance(lol). I also had a fish tank with fishes growing up as well and even into my teenage years. Loved them so much that I used to read and talk to them. How crazy is that?

The New York Aquarium is an amazing site to see. So many beautiful fishes even the eels are amazing to look at. In the summer there’s usually a dolphin and seal show which will have you in awe. On Fridays its pay as you like until 3:00pm. Its a definitely must see, you wouldn’t be disappointed.

The Dedication

I love sleeping in late on a weekends when I don’t have work or school. I mean like who doesn’t right? However I do get up quite early most weekend mornings to photograph the sunrise. Its no easy task for me since I tend to silence my alarm, suck my teeth and grumble to myself but believe it or not within a few minutes my feet are planted flat on the floor and I’m wide awake. Only dedication gets me out of that bed and the results are always worth it.

Everyone’s favorite season

What’s your favorite season? Mine? I’m still debating about it. Each has its own special characteristics that I love but autumn? Oh man! Its indescribable.

Its that special time of year when the weather begins to get cooler and the nights noticeably longer; which means we get to sleep longer. Yay! Usually by mid October to the beginning of November is when autumn shows its “true colors” and the leaves start falling, giving it a beautiful scenic view.

The Morgan Library & Museum

Did you know Jp Morgan was not only a financier but also a collector of books, historical manuscripts, old drawings and prints? From this fond hobby he built what is known as The Morgan Library and Museum. Not only does it include books but it is also used as a research library.

Its quiet a master piece. It has an ancient European feel to it. I urge to go check it out, its free on fridays from 7pm-9pm.

Looking Up

Its amazing how all living things has similar characteristics as to humans. Like a dog when he’s sick, he sort of behaves like us humans; gives you the sad face, less movements. You get the picture right?

Trees, they also are similar to human beings. We both need oxygen to survive and water and sunlight. Without these necessities survival is impossible. By now you should understand how important they are to our everyday lives. Needless to say, these trees can be so beautiful when blossoming as well as falling; the leaves that is. The colors it produce are magnificent. Even its trunk and branches can have some interesting texture, shapes and sizes.

To say this, the next time you step outside, look at a tree. No! I mean really look at it. You may find something really interesting about it.
