GRA 2406/Production Management Systems I: Course Overview & Objectives
This course focuses on the tasks that comprise successful project managment in the graphic communications field
such as setting job specifications, scheduling, trafficking, color communication and vendor management. Emphasis is
placed on techniques for developing efficient workflows that mimimize costs. This course will enable students to:
• develop a Request for Proposal based on the needs and requirements of a particular end product.
• identify and determine critical comparisons among various print technogies and online content delivery systems.
• define terminology of media project managers and apply that knowledge in developing schedules, RFPs and presentations
• hone research skills by using the library’s electronic databases to find articles & information related to class discussions and
presentations
• understand the basic principles of Color Management across different color spaces and devices
• interpret job specifications and create digital files correctly according to specific set of job specifications.
• examine and evaluate standard industry contracts and pricing for both web and print projects
• compare different vendor capababilites and explain how to select and negotiate with vendors
• gain an awareness of ongoing professional education by networking at conferences, viewing online webinars as well are read
ing blogs, industry websites, journal and periodicals.
• examine case studies and write summaries analyzing and interpreting these studies.
• create an eportfolio site that highlights the skills required of project managers
