Photo Plus Expo 2012

This Photo Plus Expo was located at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in Manhattan. There were a lot of people at this expo; the floor was filled with people everywhere. When I arrived I approached the information desk for my student badge then found my professor and rest of my colleagues. He gave us some information about the expo and what we were in for: alot of cool products and free-bees from the exhibitors.

Every exhibitor at this show had there own section to show off their products. I noticed alot of exhibitors from Nikon, Cannon and Sony when I first entered, but after I walked around I saw a lot of other companies that caught my attention. Two of the companies that I was most interested in was Cannon and Fine Art Albums; two very different and interesting companies.

CANNON

The exhibitors for this company were very good at showing their products. I like the way that they displayed the photographs that were taken using Canon cameras. The photos were displayed in a mini gallery. All of the photos I saw in the gallery were captivating and vibrant. The Canon logo itself is very attracting and easy to recognize. It was displayed in big red letters almost everywhere. The exhibitors gave out magazines and cards to promote their product. The magazine gave information on the different types of cameras and the unique qualities that each camera had to offer. There was also a lot of pictures in the magazines that showed contrast and great lighting. Canon also had people from the company come out and speak to groups of people. The people that were interested were able to ask questions and take sample pictures with the cameras.

My favorite camera from Canon that I saw at the exhibit was the EOS-1D. This camera took the best pictures, particularly pictures in super high speed. The pictures in the gallery that were taken by this camera were extraordinary. My favorite picture was the one of a snow-boarder in action. The camera was able to capture images of the snow-boarder from the time he began to make a jump, in the air, and as he landed. I also liked the picture of the blow fish in the sea by Stephen Frink. The colors of the fish in the photo came out great; this camera is great for taking HD pictures. The EOS-1D has light sensitivity, continuous shooting, focus and metering accuracy and speed. It has 18.1 Megapixels with 14.0 fps in super high speed mode! With its exceptional picture taking quality that this camera is very expensive. It retails for about $6,700.00.

All of the EOS Cameras from Canon are great for taking high resolution pictures. Although the EOS-1D was my favorite, I also liked the EOS 5D. I like this camera better for taking full frame portraits. It has 22.3 Megapixels, and has refined HD movie recording. It retails for about $4,000.00.”EOS IX is the latest salvo fired into the advanced photo system market,” said Cliff Gromer in his article Top Gun from Canon. He discusses the new technology that Canon has to offer through the EOS Cameras.

Nikon was another camera company that attended the exhibit. This company also has some interesting new cameras that take great pictures. Nikon upgraded their full-frame D-SLR from the D700 to the D800. Canon also recently upgraded from the EOS 5D Mark 2 to the EOS 5D Mark 3. Some people say there is a rivalry between Nikon and Canon, but this so called rivalry is an old one. One difference between the Nikon and Canon is that the Canon 5D requires you to press a button every time you want to refocus when making a movie while with the D800, the autofocus works non stop. However, the reason why Canon was my favorite camera at this exhibition is because of its ability to capture six frames in one second. Six frames is a lot to capture in one second which is great because your pictures would be able to tell a story. Another advantage that Canon has over the other cameras is that the viewpoint on the 5D is a little longer which makes it easier for people who wear glasses to see the finder.

FINEART ALBUMS.

Another company that I found interesting was FineArt Albums. FineArt Albums is a New York-based album manufacturer that specialize in digital albums and photo books. This company also offers laminating, mounting and printing services. I was first attracted by the display photo books that the exhibitors had on display. There were several sample books that gave people at the exhibit and idea of the products. The photo books contained pictures from a wedding. The book was designed to tell a story using eye catching pictures.

My favorite photo book was the Modern Photo Book Upgrade. This book is perfect for putting together pictures from a wedding or graduation. You can add a cameo to a leather cover and give it your own personal style for this book. The leather covers are great because they last longer. Metal covers are also available, you can choose between sepia and B&W. You can also add custom printing to your cover. Some of the books on display had Acrylic cover and print which brought the pictures to life; It gave it a more glossy and vibrant look. The images are printed on metallic paper and mounted under clear acrylic, people were very intrigued by the photo books; they came in all different sizes.

Some other types of FineArt Albums that I saw were Barn-Door Cover Collection and Mosaic Cover Collection. The Barn-Door Collection attracted me more, it is very trendy. The cover has a custom flap that covers the second image. All of the images in this photo book are printed on durable fade vinyl material. The covers felt very and looked like they could last for a very long time.

I noticed that FineArt Albums offer several different choices. You can basically pick and choose to customize your photo book the way you want it. There were many different page thicknesses that you can choose from. They can also mount a sturdy black board in between the pages if you would like. I like this the most because I would love to use this feature to add style to my photo book. The exhibitor showed me several types of mounts such as, Foam core, Gallery Plexi and Lifesize Cut-out. I would recommend FineArt Albums to anyone who wants to create a good quality book using pictures from a special occasion. It is a book that you can pass down to your children and grand children to share great memories. The exhibitors had little cards that had their information and where to find them on it. I will visit the website so that I will be able to purchase a photo book of my choice in the future.
