Sound Visualizations: Phase 4

Overall for Project #2, it was very interesting and fun for me to perform animation with Photoshop, especially it is my first time using it. Usually, I am not a huge fan or the best at listening to music, but my project went well with mixing staccato and legato music together and ensuring that the animation matches well with the remix. To recap, the music I used is Summertime and Dearly Beloved from my favorite game, Kingdom Hearts.

Feel free to view my previous phases if you want to look at my progress I made.

During the process of my composition/animation, I combined both legato and staccato to try and approach a more balanced situation. I think the animation itself presents the combination in a way that’s more visual. Hearing both the songs  (Queen – Another One Bites the Dust) and (Summertime) best gives you the perspective of both sound styles into the animation itself.

Time Spent: 5 1/2 Hours

My video is 10 seconds long , the songs I chose where River Flows In You by Yiruma and Beethoven’s 5 Secrets – One Republic (Cello Orchestral Cover) by ThePianoGuys. The hardest part in the project for me was creating the animation because I couldn’t get the hang of it, but once I did it was somewhat easier. I worked 4 hours on this phase.

Sound Visualizations: Phase 3

The animation was honestly really tough because I really wanted to blend and mix properly so things sounded fluid, but in the end, I’m fine with how it turned out for my first piece of animation. From this project, I’ve learned to master timing and patience. The thing that really stuck to me was the fact that I worked on this for over 7 hours just trying to get all the work to play out smoothly. I only used the instrumental for this piece of Runaway by Kanye West, but I used two different versions of the song to mix together. (Also, I have no idea why that left corner of stars is darker than the rest of the drawing…)

Enjoy!

Sound Visualizations: Phase 1

The song I chose for this project is “Black Star” by The Faceless. The song starts up with heavy snare hits and a staccato style riff that is is repeated for different verses within the song. The Faceless are a death metal/ prog band from LA that encompasses legato and staccato playing to give their songs depth and diversity for droned out tranquil atmosphere yet hellish speedy breakdowns.

While interpreting the sounds, I envisioned circles, loops (which identify  their legato moments that stem from the bass and guitar)  and a lot of straight geometric lines (which identify their drum patterns and even rhythmic guitar patterns) fusing to create the uproar that is Black Star.
