Why this is bad for the Consumer

This is bad for the consumer because it tracks your every move and when that data leaks hackers and other people get that data and that can contain things such as SSN numbers, addresses, but holding data also puts you at risk with anyone who’s watching, your credit card companies can sell you to the government and even though what you are doing is legal and well within your means you can end up in legal trouble and end up going to jail below are three examples of where data privacy was breached and it costed each of these individuals

Three Stories that should terrify you of letting go of your data privacy!

Edward Snowden

Edward Snowden was a former NSA intelligence contractor who had leaked classified documents that revealed that the United States and other countries  had a global surveillance programs this meant that they were spying on people’s data and could everything you did, you were only granted the illusion of data privacy but you never had any to begin with this is extremely dangerous because all of your data was within someone else’s control everything you owned was by someone else.

Lavabit

The Second Example is of Ladar Levison where he created a email service called Lavabit where you would pay to have encrypted emails and this was guaranteed by Ladar Levison himself that if you paid for his service he would never go back on his privacy claim, and this is where he ran into trouble the previous example that was discussed Edward Snowden used his service and he was wanted by the United States government for his classified documents so the government wanted Ladar to hand over Snowden emails but he refused so the government threatened Ladar Levison so he shut down his service, you can still use Lavabit if you have it but you can no longer purchase it if it didn’t have it before

Dexter Taylor

The Third Example is of Dexter Taylor is a man who was building Ghost guns in his apartment right here in new York and used his credit card, and his credit card company alerted the authorities of his activity because of certain things he bought with his card, even though ghost guns are illegal in New York the second amendment is still an amendment and that data breach of his privacy has costed him ten years of his life.
