Designing the Wall for Advertising the Clubs

Brainstorming and Understanding the Creative Brief
This project envisions a vibrant wall at the New York City College of Technology that promotes student clubs and enhances communication on campus. Serving as a dynamic hub, the wall will allow students to easily find information on club activities, events, and contact details. With an engaging design and strategically placed for maximum visibility, it will inspire greater involvement and connection within our college community, making it a vital resource for all students.
Objectives
Create a layout and templates for student clubs to announce their mission and activities. Presently, just to the right of the cafeteria door, there are homosote panels with space for posters. There is room for expansion of the existing space if one turns the corner towards the Library/Atrium Building and uses this wall.
Goals
- Define the area for the layout and plan how much space is available for each of the current number of clubs (CAD elevations)
- Design Club Wall
- Speak with Vanessa Villanueva /Sabrina (Directors of Student Life) regarding their ideas for the project
- Design Templates for club names, goals, and activities
- Speak to the heads of SGA and SLD about placing the letters on the wall
- Repaint the panels and remove the borders
- Speak to the fabrication lab about creating the letters for the panels
- Place the letters on the wall.
Target Audience
The primary target audience for this wall design project includes current students at New York City College of Technology, particularly those seeking to join or learn more about campus clubs and organizations. Secondary audiences include club leaders and members who wish to promote their activities, as well as prospective students and campus visitors interested in student life. The wall is also intended to support faculty and staff who facilitate student engagement, making it a valuable resource for anyone looking to connect with the vibrant club community at the college.
Research & Inspiration
Our research began with conversations with the heads of the Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Life & Development (SLD) to better understand the needs and goals for the wall design. We then measured the designated area to determine the available space and ensure our design would fit appropriately. After gathering all necessary information about the various student clubs and their requirements, we organized and developed our concepts collaboratively using Miroboard, allowing for efficient brainstorming, feedback, and visualization throughout the design process.

Moodboard and References

In addition to our primary research through discussions with the heads of the Student Government Association (SGA) and Student Life & Development (SLD), we gathered visual references and inspiration from Pinterest and the wall designs of other schools. This helped us explore a wide range of creative approaches and best practices for engaging, community-focused wall installations
Design Process`

During the design process, we began by researching wall installations at other schools to understand how they visually promote student organizations and foster campus engagement. Inspired by these examples, we chose to use simple, bold graphics that reflect the identity and spirit of New York City College of Technology, ensuring the design would be both eye-catching and easy to navigate. We then created digital mockups to visualize the layout and gather feedback before moving forward. For the physical installation, we decided to use corrugated cardboard for the lettering, as it is lightweight, cost-effective, and allows for creative three-dimensional effects that enhance the wall’s visual impact
