My philosophy on the profession of nursing coincides with one of the seven assumptions in Jean Watson’s Theory, “A caring environment is one that offers the development of potential while allowing the person to choose the best action for him or herself at any time”.

Nursing is a wonderful profession that gets the best results when team work is embraced. Working together to create a caring environment it also promotes excellent patient satisfaction and quality outcome. Creating a culture that has a caring environment will be the norm, thus promoting a healthier work environment and excellent staff and satisfaction. Being aware of the different cultural beliefs in the community helps us as nurse to better meet their needs.

This profession should not be filled by individuals who are insensitive, but by persons who are caring and are well prepared to meet the needs of the whole man.
