Career Goals

Story

My long term career goal is to curate my own clothing line. I want both basic and trendy fashion to be available to the minorities, such as myself growing up.  The focus of the line will be modest fashion that is available to minority group as well as the majority. Furthermore, I will aim to be size inclusive as I am familiar with shopping for “plus sizes” for myself. Often times the concept of extended sizes are singled out to separate sections in store or only online.

This manifested from growing up as a practicing Muslim women who loves fashion in all forms. Trying to follow trends or be plain fashionable is hard when you are looking for something modest and in your size, which happens to be bigger than average. As a teen I discovered ways of participating in trends by altering the looks to be modest. Often times it requires me to layer clothing to cover up. This discovery helped me notice that there are basic fashion essentials needed for modest fashion.

I have planned to pursue this goal by starting to establish and design the “basics” of my clothing line after graduating. I will continue to work with my current job as a visual associate to further familiarize myself and gain hands on experience in the industry.
