Topics:

• Functions defined by graphs (Examples 3.6 – 3.12)

• Finding the domain and range of a function from its graph (see the above examples)

• The vertical line test for the graph of a function (Definition 3.10) (Examples 3.9 and 3.11)

• Computing values of a function for varied inputs (Example 3.2 g and h: we also computed f(a+5) and f(a) + f(5), and showed that none of these are the same!)

• Computing a difference quotient (Example 3.2 i-k)

 

Homework:

• Reread and review the examples and definitions discussed in class.

• Do the remaining assigned exercises from Session 3

• Don’t forget to make sure that there is an email address for you in WeBWorK (sign in and  go to the “Password and Email” link in the left sidebar). There is no new WeBWorK assignment this time.

• Don’t forget to join our Piazza discussion group if you got the email! Warm-Ups will be going through Piazza in the future, so you need to join.
