I chose to give feedback on Frank Rodriguez’s work.

What I think works in this is the paper effect because I really like how very detailed it is showing the the beach inside the broken paper which is a very nice touch, another thing that works is the “Summer is in the air” logo because it gives it a sense of a poster from an actual summer brand.

What I think you should do is maybe fit the logo inside the broken paper so we can see the logo much better and it can be clearer to read. You mostly did that on purpose but that is just something I would do in my case to give it more professionalism. Overall, your seasons poster looks very good.

I chose to give feedback to Jazmyn, what I like about it is how the colors go together well and how the word “Rogue” has the female’s eyes in it. Something that I would suggest to do is has the background of the word “Winter” blend in with the background color so it wouldn’t look out of place.

For this week’s lab, I chose Kadin’s work which is summer. He chose elements that represents summer from the colors, the stock images. I like the word summer with the bubbles. I also like the ocean waves on the frame, very cool touch. However, I feel like it lacks unity being the images placement is very random for example the top left image on top of the picture frame. There isn’t a proper hierarchy so my eyes are everywhere. I would suggest re-sizing and rearrange the image to balance it out. Or Bring the top image to the bottom and/or resize it and swap out the frame with another image for more surrealism. Blend the boy a bit more to hide the cut off foot or use a different image. Leave a bit of white space to get a bit of the background image. The word “summer” can bit a bigger and place at the top maybe try that (it’s also fine where it’s at). Overall, the theme is clear and has potential to be better.

For today’s lab I chose to talk about Jazmyn’s work.

The use of overlapping objects, text with an image inside, and complementary colors makes this composition a really good poster.

I do think that there might be too many elements on it, and she did not use either a “window”/cutout or overlapping text, since all the text does not overlap with any of the elements in the composition, even though the text “Rogue” has an image inside of it.

For future designs, I would suggest using less elements for your composition to have a cleaner, more minimalistic and/or sophisticated look, but overall it is a great design.

I chose Karla’s work to critique. Their work is based on Summer, and I really like the concept they went with it. It really makes you feel like summer with stuff added to it. Such as the pool water and the fruit. I find it really cool and a good concept, and the way they handled the composition for it is also very nice. Overall, very nice work done.

    Critique for Taniesha’s work:

I like the charm of this piece, it evokes happiness very well with the choice of color. The photo of the ocean and the woman match very well given the levels of exposure. The light highlighting her hair gives the illusion that it was photographed together.

Although you could have chosen a full image of petals, that way it wouldn’t have cut out the way it did. You also could have find a way to show ‘spring’ spelled out fully.

One suggestion I would give is to scale the cats larger and have them sit within the frame of the window.

    Job well done

    I have chosen Rebecca’s work:

What works for me is how the background image with the door and it open’ up to an image of lush field of flowers and plant life. Another thing that works in this is the bee flying towards the door into the field and the hand holding the butterfly on the other side.

What doesn’t work is how the hand is positioned over the word “Spring” and how the butterfly is covering the “P” in Spring.

What I would suggest to improve is move the hand and the butterfly a little bit more down so that it doesn’t cover the entire “P”, but just enough where partial of it i covered so that it looks creative and readable.

    But generally, looks really good.

I picked Jazmyn work to critique. I really like the way she made the colors pop with the red and how made everything work! I really like how she wrote the word Rouge and made the eyes appear within the word as well. Only thing I am going to comment on is the word “Winter” the gray background throws off the white and red combination. In the future the background could be white and the word winter could be in a brighter red OR same red but even bolder to make the word stand out.

I really like Rebecca’s work! I specifically like how well the two backgrounds are done, with the door leading to another world. I would probably make the hand in the P a little smaller but that’s it I like it

    What Works

    • The color contrast between the muted grey paper and the turquoise beach scene is visually striking

    • The typography has good character & mixing bold caps with a flowing script creates nice rhythm

    • Layering the real photo elements (surfer girl, striped umbrella) with the illustrated badge adds depth
