Objectives

Activities

  • In-Class Exercise — Type Play Doh or Project Redo.
  • DEMO — How to Use the Effects Panel InDesign: There are multiple ways to alter the appearance of a photo InDesign. We’ll go through the Effects Panel together.
    • To open your Effects Panel, locate your top menu bar and click WINDOW > Effects.
    • The Effects in this panel are similar to ones also in Photoshop. In InDesign it includes the following:
      • Blending Mode (Multiply, Screen, etc)
        • There’s a panel that allows you to adjust the blend mode settings to different attributes of your shape.
      • Opacity
      • Object Effects (Drop Shadow, Outer Glow, etc)
    • Example:
      • Find a textured image
      • Create a rectangle and apply a blending style to it.
      • Typeset a word or a phrase, add a blending style to it either as live type or after making it a shape (TYPE > Create Outlines)
  • Type Textures (cont.): This is a GRADED assignment. You will continue to experiment with type, color, and layout using one layout you submitted for homework.
    • Open your Type Textures 1 InDesign File and add a second page.
    • On top left square:
      • Choose a texture from the previous 4, add a solid shape. Manipulate effects and transparency to achieve a legible composition (this will be different from the one done on previous class).
      • Leave two squares blank, then add an image inside a letter in the bottom right square, using this demo.
      • Example
      • Once finished, save your work in InDesign.
        • Export a PDF
        • Name PDF: Lastname_Firstname_Type_Textures_2
        • Place in Dropbox
