Objectives
- Continue to learn about strategies and skills that will help us make typography a bit more playful.
- No cheap tricks. Keep a solid understanding of the letterform. Textures and effects do not mean good typography.
- Continue learning tools in Illustrator
Activities
- Demo — 3D tools in Illustrator and Typography
- EXTRUDE/INFLATE/MATERIALS/LIGHTING
- Type Challenge — Illustrator Tools (Extrude)
- Project 2 — Part 4 — 3D (Start in class, complete for HW)
- Create an Illustrator doc with the following specs :
- Size: 3″ x 3″
- 4 Artboards
- .5″ between artboards
- Once document is open:
- Save as: Lastname_Firstname_3DWord
- Create A Sequence (You’ll be working from Left to Right):
- Choose ONE word from your Four Words exercise in Class 12.
- Feel free to redesign or edit to make the design stronger.
- On Artboard 1, paste your selected word in black and white.
- On Artboards 2-4 : Experiment with different solutions.
- Remember, this is a typography exercise so your word must be legible, and the solution must make sense to the meaning of the word. You can use color.

- Choose ONE word from your Four Words exercise in Class 12.
- Once finished, save your work in Illustrator.
- Take a screenshot of your Illustrator file
- Name image: Lastname_Firstname_3DWord
- Place in Dropbox
- Create an Illustrator doc with the following specs :
