Topic

Objectives

  • Continue to learn about strategies and skills that will help us make typography a bit more playful.
  • Continue learning tools in Illustrator

Activities

  • Project 2 — Part 3 — COLOR (Start in class, complete for HW)
    • Create an Illustrator doc with the following specs :
      • Size: 3″ x 3″
      • 4 Artboards
    • Once document is open:
      • Save as: Lastname_Firstname_FaveFood_Sequence2
    • You’ll be exploring how to apply color to a design from your previous round (Sequence 1)
      • Select your last solution from Sequence 1 and continue to explore design options in black and white. Really push your creative boundaries and play with placement.
        • Come up with 3 keywords that will inspire your final design. Assign each keyword to a specific design element to make it easier to make design choices.
      • Select your favorite and/or your strongest design and keywords from this edit. Screenshot it and place it into this Dropbox folder. We will be critiquing on screen as a class.
        • Critiques are to be constructive. Instead of “like”, call out what you think is successful and what you think can be improved.
        • Does the designer capture their keywords?
      • Apply the relevant feedback to your design. Keep exploring and make sure it’s a design you’re excited about.
    • Create A Sequence (You’ll be working from Left to Right):
      • Explore color combinations based on your keywords. 1st square is black and white only, the remaining 3 are to use colors. Use 4 colors max.
      • Avoid color combinations that create visual conflict and poor contrast. (Below is what NOT to do)
      • Here is an example of another version where the designer reconsidered placement of letters, and offset path.
