SEEK Counselors provide SEEK students with support and guidance to help them succeed in college.
All SEEK students are assigned a counselor to assist students in monitoring their academic progress and also refer them to relevant academic support services.

How do our counselors help students?
- Counselors assist and advise students in dropping courses and changing curricula/majors, and plan courses for future semesters. They also help students to understand college and university policies and procedures.
- SEEK Counselors help students do a thorough self-assessment, research specific career areas, and then choose an appropriate course of study. They help students to set goals and make career plans.
- Counselors are also here to help students identify and cope with personal and family challenges, assisting them to develop skills and strategies for success in stress and time management, reducing anxieties, and solving problems throughout your academic career.
- We refer students who need more intensive counseling to community mental health agencies.
What’s the difference between an academic advisor and counselor?
SEEK Counselor
Your SEEK counselor helps you develop a comprehensive educational and career plan that meets your specific needs. Your counselor also provides individual and group counseling on personal issues as needed.
Academic Advisor
An academic advisor discusses your degree requirements with you and recommends the courses you must take to obtain your degree in a timely manner.
SEEK Student Counseling Activities:
Introduction to College Life – AA 1010
First semester SEEK students are enrolled in a one-credit course called Introduction to College Life (AAA 10100, which is taught by their SEEK counselor. The course provides freshmen students with an orientation to college life, assists them in the development of academic skills, and helps develop an understanding of themselves and what it takes to succeed in college and beyond. The course helps create a support system to promote students’ confidence and motivation toward completing academic, career, and personal goals.

SEEK students can attend counselor-led workshops that serve as safe space for small and large group discussions, activities, and exercises to learn something new, connect with other students and have fun.
