Gregory Antoine:  Greg is a Computer Information Systems major who began drawing for fun in the 6th grade. He just started drawing again two years ago, after giving a “How To” speech on drawing for his Communications class, which got him re-interested in art. Three words which describe Gregory are: dedicated, inventive, and imaginative.

Catherine Estrella:  Catherine started writing poetry based on what she was feeling at the moment. Her creative writing teacher senior year of high school encouraged her to keep going—and at that time, paper became her best friend. It was that year that she also had the honor of meeting Sandra Cisneros (House on Mango Street) which served as further inspiration. Catherine is now interested in teaching creative writing to high school students. Three words which describe Catherine are: sentimental, thoughtful, and giving.

Tynesha Frazier:  Tynesha, a Health Services Administration major, started writing in 1998, when she was in junior high. She started writing songs and later began to write poetry. She also started drawing in junior high, recently switching to more abstract forms of art. She is currently working on a project involving words lost to the English language, which she is pairing with visual art. Three words which describe Tynesha are: versatile, passionate, and dedicated.

Victor Green:  Victor is an architecture major who started writing poetry during winter break in the 9th grade as an assignment for Black History month. His poems have been published in the Poeticpower.com contest and the World Poetry Movement. He began drawing in 10th grade to express his feelings. Three words which describe Victor are: eccentric, dynamic, and mysterious.

Darren “Freszco” Keelan:  Darren is an Art and Advertising Design major who started writing lyrics when he was eight years of age behind the walls of pink-housing projects in East New York, where the mothers are fathers, and the fathers are the streets, the place where people give little to make more, where frowns are smiles and smiles are masks covering the pain beneath the melanin of skin. Through his music you can hear him strive to survive in America and the “ghetto,” his home, his neighborhood. Three words which describe Darren are: intelligent, respectable, and wise.

Daeneesha Bowens-Pope:  Daeneesha is Liberal Arts major who has been writing since she was twelve years old, just prior to her grandfather’s death. She likes to call her writing an “escape.” She escapes from reality as her pen and paper help to lead her more deeply into her thoughts. Three words which describe Daeneesha are :talented, extraordinary, and creative.

JR Shihab:  JR, a Hospitality Management student, has been writing on and off since she was twelve years old. When she was younger, learning to read was difficult and she was even put into special classes to help her comprehension. Through her struggles she found something she enjoyed in school, language arts. She typically excelled in this area but never thought to share it with others. Just recently, a professor mentioned she should look into writing for the school’s newspaper. Following his encouragement, she has been writing for the New Tech times since the Fall of 2011. This has opened her eyes to the option of writing as a profession. She especially wants to thank Malcolm and Jackie for the encouragement. Three words which describe JR are: reliable, giving, and appreciative.

Natasha Torres:  Natasha is a first year student at City Tech who is majoring in liberal arts. She’s always liked writing and when she was younger, she remembers writing in a diary before bed (usually with frustration!) She feels like writing is a way of expressing feelings that only one’s unconscious knows about. Three words which describe Natasha are: passionate, visionary, and humble.
