Kiera: Project Proposal Unit 3

In this new project, I hope to teach my audience about how the disparities and equity gaps in the educational system has worsened due to COVID-19 and how this primarily affects low-income students and students of color. I also hope to provide information on ways affected students can get help and support. The audience I am trying to reach are the people who are the subject of my topic, which are low-income students and POC students, as well as readers who have not directly been affected by such discussed issues and may not have realized that educational inequality is a thing that’s currently still happening. The genre that I will be using for this project is a magazine/news style article because I feel like it suits my topic the best and would be the most effective way to get my point across and reach readers. My initial plan for getting started on this is to browse magazine articles similar to my topic and what I plan to write about, and to take note of how those pieces are formatted and laid out.

Of the 8 quotes that I found from my research, the following quote is the one that inspired me the most because it sets the tone for optimism and hopefulness about creating a positive change in the educational system, which is something that we really need to happen.

“I hope that in this um, what I hope will be an interlude, we can at least develop a vision of where we want to go for a more just society. For a society that really is committed to a lot of the rhetoric that we have about no child left behind, every student succeeds, every child a winner, all means all, but we haven’t really built a system to achieve that.” (Reville, 08:49-09:11)
