The story is about not knowing the purpose of education until Lensky got older. It was very difficult for Lensky to learn in school due to learning a new language and adapting to a whole new country. The line that stood out to me the most was “Also not being able to communicate with the teacher and asking for help when you don’t understand what’s happening was hard because I didn’t really know how to confront teachers for help when I didn’t understand something.” I chose this line because In high school I would never ask my teachers for help. I was very shy and I felt like I would’ve been the only person in my class who didn’t understand what was going on.

The story is about how he realized that school was very important when he get old. When he was a kid he wasn’t really focusing on school then his family gave him advice and those advice push him to be a better student.
“My grandma would always tell me that she worked so hard to bring me and my cousin and her kids to the U.S” because her grandma was explain him how she worked so hard to bring them in here.

Lensky’s essay was about how he didn’t understand the importance of getting an education when he was younger but with the help of his mother and grandmother he began to understand that getting an education is very important. After moving to the U.S, he struggled in school with learning and understanding a whole new language; but with his determination and motivation he got the hang of it and realized that hard work pays off.

In the last paragraph Lensky talks about how hard it can be for people coming to the states from other countries wanting to pursue a better education and life. I can only imagine how difficult and terrifying it is being in a new place with a new language and not knowing how to navigate anything. I am in awe of his motivation and determination to conquer a new language all on his own. It’s very impressive and you should be very proud of yourself Lensky, as I’m sure your grandmother is. I offer my condolences.

One question I have for Lensky is, do you still struggle to reach out to your professors for help now that you’re in college? Or do you feel more comfortable and confident doing so?
