Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz: “Archeology of the Self”

“Getting from Here to There: One Woman’s Journey From the South Bronx to the Academy”features Dr. Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz. The article you read was written when Dr. Sealey-Ruiz was an Assistant Professor at Kingsborough College. She is now an esteemed scholar and professor at Columbia University’s Teachers College  where she founded the Racial Literacy Project. Dr. Sealey-Ruiz is also a poet. Her new book is Love from the Vortex.

Below is a short video documentary of Dr. Sealey-Ruiz discussing her work with students studying to become teachers themselves and the importance of inclusiveness and sensitivity for all who enter the field of education. Watch this and consider how writing memoir might also be an “archeology of the self”?
