Writing the Educational Autobiography

WRITING AN EDUCATIONAL BIOGRAPHY

In an educational biography, the writer reflects upon life experiences and events that shape his/her/their experience in education.

An educational autobiography might explore any or a combination of the following:

  1. experiences that showed how your family upbringing and relationships formed your early years of school
  2. experiences with family expectations for attending school and/or graduating
  3. experiences with your favorite subjects or teachers and/or how you realized you were doing well
  4. experiences that showed you how  well-prepared or unprepared you were when you came to college and how you realized this
  5. experiences that led you to choose this particular college
  6. experiences that led you to choose your specific major
  7. experiences that formed your academic strengths and/or weaknesses

Notice that all of these possibilities ask you to reflect upon a personal experience. Reflections on personal experiences or stories form the heart of memoir.
