WRITING AN EDUCATIONAL BIOGRAPHY
In an educational biography, the writer reflects upon life experiences and events that shape his/her/their experience in education.
An educational autobiography might explore any or a combination of the following:
- experiences that showed how your family upbringing and relationships formed your early years of school
- experiences with family expectations for attending school and/or graduating
- experiences with your favorite subjects or teachers and/or how you realized you were doing well
- experiences that showed you how well-prepared or unprepared you were when you came to college and how you realized this
- experiences that led you to choose this particular college
- experiences that led you to choose your specific major
- experiences that formed your academic strengths and/or weaknesses
Notice that all of these possibilities ask you to reflect upon a personal experience. Reflections on personal experiences or stories form the heart of memoir.
