Learning is a very beautiful asset that we have. The reason behind my theory is because we have the ability to take in information, process it and give a response in any way or form it doesn’t have to be by speaking it can be hand gestures, physical action etc. So yesterday September 9, 2016 was a perfect opportunity to test my little cousins learning skills. I had to babysit him for 7 hours until his mother returned, So I told him to clean his room he then sat down near me and stood quiet. When I saw this I then told him if he cleaned his room I will take him to the movies and get ice cream afterwards. He obeyed my command because I told him I would reward him this would be called in psychological terms positive reinforcement. When I went to the room to evaluate it I saw that it was rushed so I told him to do it again and he started throwing a temper tantrum like throwing his toys, his bed sheets etc, so then I felt like I had no choice so I used positive punishment, I hit him and all of a sudden he got quiet and immediately he started to clean his room the ”RIGHT” way. He then came back to me without me going to him and apologized for rushing which taught me that he learned and he’s more than likely to listen to me just because I used positive punishment.

Shawn Villeta: Homework on Observation and Attention/Focus

When a person is focusing they block everything else out of their mind and their brain is on whatever they are focusing on. For an example a person can be watching a movie at the theater and the climax of the movie is about to show and your friend asked you to pass them the popcorn and because you didn’t hear them you didn’t pass them the popcorn so they reached over you and got it themselves. I ( Shawn Villeta) have been through this situation, what happened was this summer in the Venice Beach, California near Los Angeles, I was selected to play at a tournament by one of my scouts. Basketball is a game of ”runs” meaning you can be up 10 points now and lose by 5 so what happened was it was the start of the 4th quarter my team was up 12 points with 8 minutes remaining. My coach then subbed me in the game because the starting point guard was in foul trouble and all I had to do is kill the clock every time we got the ball. The opposing team cut the deficit to 6 points and the pace of the game was going at a high speed so while I was bringing up the ball on the sideline my coach was talking to me I’m assuming he was giving me a play to run and because I was focused on the defender in front of me the information he gave me didn’t register and because it didn’t register we ended up losing the game by 3 because of free throws.

Shawn Villeta – Observation on attention

My experience on attention actually occurred recently, last Wednesday I was in a hurry to get to my 11:30 am math class. What happened was that I woke up around 8:30 am so I went through my regular morning routine such as shower, brushing my teeth, eating and getting changed. When I grab my phone I see that the time is 10:15 and I don’t like being late to anything, I always like being 30 to 45 minutes early. The reason I thought I was going to be late is due to where I live and it isn’t a fast commute, so what I ended up doing was grabbing all of my belongings that I needed for school that day and rushed out of the house and once I got to the train I remembered that I forgot to lock my house door so I then called my uncle and told him the whole situation and then he called the neighbor so she can watch the house until one of us got home.
