The illustration was created by the Japanese illustrator Hayao Miyazaki. The process and media he used are watercolor paint, paper and pencil.
The Hayao Miyazaki uses the Compositional Technique called Movement. The illustration shows this by having the leaves circle around the girl and by the bottom of the girl’s dress move to the left.
This is effective because the illustration shows us the feeling of the wind on the girl and leaves.
I could integrate these techniques in my own work by studying them carefully and create an art that displays them. This will include movement of animals, unity and symmetry in landscapes.
Hi Kiana! I really like this illustration you chose, looks like its right out of a children’s book. I agree with you that the composition works because of the use of movement within it.
