Sound Visualization: Phase 1

Hours Worked On: 1 Hour

When the song starts, it has a very gentle beginning, which I symbolized with straight lines. It then quickly escalates into a bold beat that feels like hammers on stone. This jump is what intrigues me in this song. From then, there are also vocal choirs that give the whole song a spiritual sensation. The percussion used in the song also helps to keep listeners interested in what comes next.

Then there’s the actual rapper himself. When he starts, the words he uses tend to immediately grab your attention and pull you into the beat. This also makes it feel like he is radiating a wavelength of power. He then starts to synchronize with the beat of the soundtrack and completely engulf you in the sound, like a bubble.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

While participating in this project, I feel that I have developed a deeper understanding between the relationship of the figure and the background highlighting it. I have also learned that they are also able to play off of each other and make each other more noticeable. However, I feel that I have only completely grasped the introduction to this concept. There is still much practice that I need to do before I am able to fully utilize the figure/ground relationship in the way that I desire. One of the ways is that I feel that I need to learn more on balancing the figure and ground to get the kind of effect that I want. I also need to work on not only how to use the subject of my art pieces, but also the space around them as well. What I will try to do in the future is to try and utilize the full potential that the space around me gives. This may allow me to get the kind of effect I want to viewers in the most efficient way.

When I walk around New York City, litter tends to be a very commonly seen object as I pass by. However, today will be different because of a curiosity as to how it got there in the first place. For instance, it puzzles me as to how that pigeon died. It could have died from old age, poisonous food, or even murder by another creature. Then there’e the M&M cup, which seems to be completely intact despite being tossed to the ground and neglected. I wonder if it went through the same events that most food packages go through in being opened, used and eventually thrown away. It must have gone through a different course of events from the broken fingernail. I imagine that a great amount of care and effort went into it for the fingernail to have been left on the floor looking like it just came off someone’s hand. Either way, it’s interesting to think of how these objects have reached their current situations.
