1. Name 10 genres you encounter in your everyday life.

Answer: Emails, Coupons, Texting, Textbooks, Essays, Reviews, Research Paper, Story Book, Comic & Articles.

2. Name one or two that you like best and say why. Who is their audience? What sort of language do they use?

Answer: I’ll choose “texting” because it’s a casual and easy way to quickly communicate with others. Texting allows you to choose when you want to engage with someone, as opposed to a phone call. Texting also doesn’t require you to follow traditional grammar rules. The easy-going nature of texting cultivates an environment that allows for free expression. For example, over text, you can use emojis to best display how you are feeling and what point you want to get across.

3. What is your understanding of the term “Genre:”?

Answer: A genre is the very essence of communication. We communicate through music, text messages, stories, poems, reviews, etc. The method, meaning approach and the emotion being channeled by a form of communication is called genre.
