Welcome to a New World

First Assignment- Heidy Delgado.

A thrilling adventure. This summer, my loved ones and I, decided to embark on a trip to Niagara Falls where many unforgettable memories were made. Our tour journey began in NYC; we visited The Spiral Tunnel, Seneca Lake, Niagara River Gorge and many other places. I really value the time I get to spend with my family, which I am thankful we took this trip. This is just one of many memories to be made, but we all have responsibilities.

I am intrigued on how virtual classes are going to turn out, considering that this would be my first time taking virtual classes.

Taking classes online can be distracting, but I am looking forward to my performance this semester as being my best one so far.

Reflect and  “let today be the start of something new”’, make this upcoming semester be a fresh start to you, and put all of our effort into it.

First Assignment- Shantal Garcia

Eager. My summer was pretty entertaining, I went to my home country for 2 months. I met my grandma from my dad’s side for the first time in 17 years. A monumental moment I would say, she’s a sweet soul and she cooks incredible. She lives near Boca Chica, which is a well known beach in DR. Since she lived close I took advantage of that and went for a swim a couple of times. The water is nice and warm, but the waves can be strong in the afternoon. After I came back I just went to work for the rest of the summer.

Being an online student again though isn’t very pleasant. I prefer going in person, because I have a reason to be outside rather than being cooped up at home. Plus learning from your home sort of takes away from your attention span due to having so many people at home like me. But I’m still optimistic, and interested on what this semester has in store.

Being an online student can be intimidating, confusing, and just plain difficult!

So for these first few days, you get to share your concerns with other students. Maybe give each other some advice or just a good old bit of support. Believe me — online instructors have many of the same worries you do, even if we’ve been teaching online for a while.

Here’s what you’ll do:

  1. PLAY with our OpenLab Course website.  Click around on all the menus and dropdown menus. See what’s there! This is kind of like our classroom for the semester, so make yourself familiar with the “room” and the “closets” and “shelves” where we are storing things. (If you read and followed the WELCOME post, you probably can just skip to step 2.)
  2. WRITE: a new post (here is info on how to Post. You can also just click the “+” sign at the top of the OpenLab menu as a shortcut : ))
  •       Start with one word that describes how you’re feeling about this course as we get started. No need to explain, but you can if you want to.
  •       Then: Tell us a bit about how your summer went, your worries, concerns…anything you feel about being an online student… whatever you want, No censoring… And
  •       Add a picture that means something to you, and explain why you chose it — why does it mean something to you? It can be anything. (If you need help on how to Upload a photo, check this OpenLab Help link.)

Post using the Category called “INTRO”

  1. Comment: Wait a while. Check back in and see what other people are saying, and reply (here’s a link for how to leave a COMMENT) to at least 2 other people’s posts or comments. It’s nice to know we’re not alone! Hey, don’t just repeat what a lot of other people are saying. Try to be as personal and specific as you can. Your classmates will appreciate it. btw: if you are having too much trouble on commenting, please just ask me during Zoom class, and I will walk you through how to do it.
