My favorite photo is the picture of the people working in the sweatshop. The picture was taken by Lewis Wickes Hine. I found this photo to be my favorite out of all six photographs because you get to see how the life style was back in the early 1900’s. The photograph shows men and women working in a sweatshop but you see more women sewing. In my opinion, I believe they’re more women sewing then men because it was more of a women’s job in this era. The bad part about working in a sweatshop is that the pay that the job offers is low and the working conditions are poor. I could infer that in this time hats were very popular because I see multiple hats hanged up on the walls. The men and women are dressed differently from how men and women dress today. If you look closely at the type of clothing the women were wearing in the photograph, you’ll notice that none of them are exposing their body parts. If you look closely at what the men are wearing you’ll notice some are wearing suspenders with their shirts tucked in. Also, you’ll notice that some of their coats and hats are hung up on the wall. The setting of the sweatshop looks poor, for example the floor looks dirty and unorganized. Also, there’s barely any space for that many people to be working there. This is why this photograph is my favorite because it shows me how life was back in the day compared to how we live life today.

Your favorite photo was second of my choice, although I didn’t use it but I like for the very similar reason of yours. I see you’ve added much of your opinions about the women‘s job area which I agree with, sewing has been mostly women’s job since ancient times and it seems like it haven’t changed much in the 1900’s. You also mentioned the low payment and poor working conditions, again I couldn’t agree anymore with. Because my mom also works in a sewing factory I know that even though they sew with machines nowadays, their working conditions haven’t improved much (except for the tightly shut doors and windows which would be illegal) and not to mention the low salaries they get. They are mostly immigrants which I believe the workers from the photo are most likely immigrants as well. Lastly, I want to comment on your acknowledgment of the clothing in the photo. Honestly I didn’t have second thoughts on it until I read your post. There truly is a huge difference between the clothing style back then and in the modern days. Especially how back in the days women clothing barely exposed any parts of their body but now, some girls even wore shorts that partly exposes their butt cheeks. Overall, when we compare the days in the past and the modern days, we always find changes.
Hey, Justin I found this article very interesting. One of the main reasons why I find the response appealing is the way the photograph was described. You can imagine the photograph with the descriptive details that were given. Based on the description of this photograph, I understand that the people where dressed differently than modern times. Knowing this, I can agree when you state how the photograph shows how lifestyle was back in the 1900s. This response also informed me about many aspects of people life’s in that era. With the description of the setting, I could understand the conditions that people used to work in before. This also allowed me to contrast how the workplace presented in the photograph is much different than the ones we have today. The description on how the people were dressed in the photograph also informed me on the way people used to dress during that time period. This response can be viewed in a positive way because it consists of many detailed descriptions and can be very agreeable.
Hey Justin, this photograph out of all was my second favorite, because the photographer that took this photograph is my favorite. I found it interesting that you mentioned certain things, which a person looking at the photograph with a glance wouldn’t remember. However, one of things I do believe is, the picture doesn’t really point out much of a difference from the way they were working back then to the way we’re working now. What you wrote was great, but I’m really interested in hearing what you thought about the other photographer that Lewis Wickes Hine took, which is the group of worker, working on a building.
