Brooklyn Museum Essay

Brooklyn Museum Essay

For our field trip we visited the Brooklyn Museum . I must admit that I really enjoyed the arts. It was a pleasant experience because of the quality of artworks displayed in the museum. The main focus of visiting the museum was to see JR’s incredible artworks especially, “Guns in America”. Another interesting part was that the art works followed by audios, accessible on iPads. The videos were enhanced by hearing each participant’s voice, which made it even more intimate.

This mural depicts the pro-gun and anti-gun on opposite sides of the spectrum. To the left are the anti-gun people, and on the right are the pro-gun men. It shows a press conference table in the bottom-middle of the artwork which indicates that people can start a discussion. The purpose of the conference table being in the middle helps both sides not to overweight the other but encourages them to speak openly.

JR has emerged as one of our most strong storytellers and connectors of disparate cultures and societies over the last two decades. He is Known all over the world for his artworks which depict complex social issues. His piece “Guns in America”, published in Time Magazine, allows us to hear the tale of people about how guns are isolated from their lives, and how they have been influenced positively and negatively. For this single piece there were 245 people who agreed to share their own stories and considered the point of view of the opposing sides. “Guns in America” reflect various views so simply that questions are rarely asked other than, what are they saying? Not only was it visually informative but it was incredibly eye-opening to hear each individual story as to why they thought weapons were good or bad. This piece of art allows us to know that it has influenced many different people and has various impacts for many different people.

I learned many important stories behind the artworks while enjoying the trip.
