Project #2 First Draft

Q: How do you intend to grow as a designer with this program ?

A: I intend to grow by taking as  many classes i can to better grasp my knowledge of design. There are so many professors in this program that either worked in this field for so many years, or studied in this field for so many years. So me as a learner i want to take advantage of that as much as i can by showing them my work, getting their professional feedback from it, learn from my mistakes to better myself. And there are so many … Read More...

Project #2 First Draft

Question 1: What is your dream job in the field of design?

Answer: My Dream Job in this field of design would probably be in the world of Marketing and Advertising. Also designing everything we might see in our future and working with top name brands. I also want to be a designer in terms of music/music creation and composition. I am a huge music guy and I see my future being heavily involved in the industry. I see myself on the billboard charts, on stage winning awards someday with a great label behind me or even my own label, … Read More...

Class notes for 9/12: Project #2 and the role of the artist

Update about what we’re doing for Project #2: As we draft, you will develop answers to many of the questions we brainstormed. Ultimately, you will produce an interview with an introduction, much like the format of Ksenya Samarskaya’s interview with Nontsikelelo Mutiti, “Nontsikelelo Mutiti on Interrogating the Euro-centric Design Canon.”

Homework due 9/17: Answer 4 questions from our list, trying to think about any kind of theme or awareness-raising your work expresses or you want it to express. Aim to write approximately 150 per question. To submit your homework, add a post with your 4 questions and … Read More...

Deciding on a Major

Question: Why did you choose this major (COMD)?

I chose communication design to be the major I wanted to study during my time at city tech because I feel like it caters the best towards what I wanna be afterwards. One of my main goals/passions is towards video games, video making and content creation in general. Whether that be me making YouTube videos myself or streaming a game or even helping my friends make videos that’s what I love to do. And with communication design it can help me develop skills that I would need to take that dream further. … Read More...

Becoming A College Student

Transitioning from high school to college was much more smooth than I thought it would be because I am more in control. I’m used to being independent and doing my own thing, so this is almost like a piece of cake. Key word: almost. The breaks that I have between my classes give me time to work on any assignments or just hanging out with friends. It’s all up to me, just the way I like it. My favorite class so far is Art History, probably because I’m an art junkie. The class is engaging, and I’ve already … Read More...

Project #2 drafting: interview questions

For homework, write a response to one of the interview questions we brainstormed in class. It can be one that your group came up with, or one from someone else. It can be the one you started drafting in class or another. Aim to write approximately 150 words in your answer.

Comment on at least 2 classmates’ responses. Your comment can be directed to them, or it can be more for everyone to address why it’s important for that question to be included in the interview, or connections you’re starting to see across the responses.… Read More...

Beginning Project #2: Brainstorming Interview Questions

If you were asked to participate in an interview about being a 1st year design student for a COMD publication, or for Eye on Design-AIGA, what questions would you want to be asked?

  • what catches your eye when looking at other people’s work?
  • what is your dream job in the field of design
  • what other skills do you want to learn in this program?
  • how is the community in your major?
  • what is the schoolwork like in your coursework?
  • what in the class draws your attention?
  • where do you think the future of design will take you?
  • why did you

assignment 2-kami

My 1st two weeks at Citytech were mostly transitional for me. When I say transitional, I mean like I’m just getting used to the everyday flow and lifestyle of college. I was also getting accustomed to all the classes I registered for this past summer. So far none of them have really given me any type of trouble except for Typography and Drawing. Typography in particular is difficult to read. The professor says we have to be creative in our assignments yet follow his directions to pretty much the most specific of details. It’s really confusing. Drawing is more … Read More...
