Saturation Studies: Phase 1

For my color wheel I wanted it to be based off eyes, I did different eye colors that exist and some eye colors that are fictional. The reason I chose eyes is because eye color varies and its very distinguishable. So I thought I would search up different eye colors. Three of my eyes are not fictitious and the others are.

Time spent: I spent about two to three hours doing this phase of the project.

Saturation Studies: Phase 1

These are both my color wheels that I finished in class. The one that I created I wasn’t really sure what theme I should go with. Then I realized that all of the things that I chose had to do with nature. It was really easy to do it once I got the hang of it.

Value-Added Portraits: Phase 1

Broad

High-key

Low-key

In these 3 photos, the lowkey value is the darkest, it has a darker background and primarily focuses my hands.  It was taken in the classroom next to the window shade. The highkey has a lighter background and also focuses on my hand. The broad photo was taken in the class computer desks on a keyboard as the background. Each of these creates the gist of my hand being in different surrounding but in the same place at once.

Sound Visualization: Phase 1

The song I used for staccato sketches is called Black Sheep by Metric and for the legato sketches I did the song Teleport 2 Me by Kid Cudi.

The staccato song is a rock song so at the beginning of the song you hear a lot of the electric guitar repeating a certain rhythm and its very fast. The legato song has a lot of humming and a slow rhythm, however it is a mixture of slow and fast rhythm but the overall feel of the song is legato.

Valued- Added Portraits: Phase 1

In the 3 pictures I took for this phase, the very light or white one shows a mood of happiness or jolly, while my hand position shows order, perfection, or strictness. Meanwhile, the dark or black photograph shows more of a sad, depressed, or dull mood. However, my hand is position communicates a calm, delicate personality. Lastly, the broad value range photograph shows an in between mood, but my hand says anger, justice, or violence.

Value-Added Portraits: Phase 1

High Key image is meant to be more pale, with more lighter tones and almost has pure white in the image. This composition makes the photo look almost colder, maybe even with more added sunlight, and very little black. photo was taken underneath a bright light.

Low Key image has a bright hand in the frame, but very little white in any other part of the photo. All potential brightness is directed towards the hand. The rest of the photo is darker with tones of gray. The way this photo was lit, it gives off the impression that this photo was taken at night with a flash illuminating it.

Broad Range this last photo has tones of gray, black and white mixed throughput to create a full gray scale. The palm, while not shown, is facing towards the outside, towards the light, meanwhile the back of the hand is receiving little light. This image, in my opinion, feels more natural, having the most ranges in tone, while the others feel more forced. I would say this is because having a range like this is more natural.

Sound visualization: Phase 1

These are the sketches that I made for the staccato and legato pieces of music that we did in class. Most of these I didnt use because they were either too much to draw or just didn’t really like it enough to put it on the finishing piece. Some of them were also inspired by some of the muni was listening to.

Sound Visualization Mashup: Phase 1

So the song that I choose to make these thumbnails on the image is “Want You” by Rynx feat. Miranda Glory and the genre of this music piece is based on pop/ electronic. Most of the thumbnails have these wobbling scripts and they represent the vocals and/or the bass of the music played and they’re also known as legato figures because it has this very slow and flow rhythm (for some of the wobbly thumbnails).

The top left is a bit unusual  and it is also known as staccato because all angles and lines are connected together and it has this very pointy edged that in music represents a rhythm that all different pieces are connected. These thumbnails are only instruments that are played on the music and hearing each part of the instrument I reimagined how they would look like and redesign it using my perspective image. I understand that the artist is showing signs of excitement and show it’s unique style of music and it the reason it’s one of my favorite songs is for the the amazing vocals and melodies that the artist is using as well as the amazing rhythm and potential on the bass/ percussion part.
