Project 3: Juxtaposition

To go to that building, i left from the exit near the pearl building on the second floor of the school. When i got out i made a right, walked to the end of the block of adams street. Then walk across the big crosswalk with a crossing guard there to tillary street. After crossing, cross the street to your right after crossing turn left and there should be a court. Walk down the street of the court and you’ll be between the korean war park and brooklyn memorial park. Then across the street of the other side of the park you’ll see a big building that is under construction.

I chose this building because its under construction currently. I wanna know what kind of building it is and once was. What did it look like before the construction. How long has this building been there. Next to it is also a really tall building that is built.

Sound of Visualization: Phase 1

Song

For this project, I chose a piano song called Nuvole Bianche by a Italian Pianist called Ludovico Einaudi. This song is a very good piano song and can have many meaning behind it depending on your point of view. There are many emotions in this one song.  At the beginning of the song, you feel lonely, and as you keep fighting on you find your purpose.

For this song, i drew squiggly lines going down as in losing hope and feeling lonely. On the bottom of the lines i drew stars that shows finding something that enlightens you with the sun shining at the stars.

Plough

Plough is the British spelling of plow

noun

  1. an implement used to cut, lift, and turn over soil especially in preparing a seedbed –Merriam Webster Dictonary
  2.  a yoga pose assumed by lying on one’s back and swinging one’s legs over one’s head until the outstretched feet approach or touch the floor.  -Google Dictionary

The word was found from Saint-Exupery, Antoine de. “The Tool.” Wind, Sand and Stars. 1939.

The word plough was used to compare to someone believing that machines is the end. But machines are also tools that we will be using just like the plough that is used for farming.

I understand this word now because a plough is a tool that is used to modify  soils and are used in farms for farming. Comparing machines to it is just like saying it will be used the same way.

Field Trip

I found this compelling because the lights changes from a bright blue to a warm yellow. The light colors changed when standing under it. The light’s colors can affect our mood and feelings. A bright blue would mean we are awaken and warm yellow would mean we are tired. The materials used to create this was light emitting diodes, aluminum, and glass.

The chairs are designed for use in schools. Apparently these chairs are to help students sit with their spines straight. This is compelling because its similar to a rocking chair and its pretty comfortable for my back and does not make any noise. Too bad we don’t use these in school. The chairs are made from Polypropylene and polyethylene. (Plastic)

Urban Artifacts: Phase 4

After the criticism i received from class, i needed to make these two pictures relate to each other. By doing that i took the circle from the stable figure and added it to the ambiguous figure. With the circle, the ambiguous figure looks like something spilled and covered up the 40. From what i learn from the critics, for the upcoming projects i will use figures that are able to relate to each other.

Urban Artifacts: Phase 1

Urban Artifacts: Phase 2

Urban Artifacts: Phase 3

Urban Artifacts: Phase 3

Here we have one stable and one ambiguous. The stable one is a .40 that I found outside of city tech by the bicycles.  It is stable because you can clearly see the number from the background. The second picture is a stain that is near the Nathans hot dog stand a few blocks down from city tech by the train station. It is ambiguous because the background and figure are equal and if you were to turn it and look at it from a different side it would show more than one thing. I chose these two because it took place in near the school. Each of these drawings were taken from phase 2.

Exasperate

Exasperate

Definition:  to cause irritation or annoyance to – Merriam- Webster dictionary.

Origin of exasperate: Latin exasperatus, past participle of exasperare, from ex- + asper rough — more at asperity

Example:  No matter where you are, your siblings always exasperate you.

The word was encountered through a book called I heard the owl call my name By: Margaret Craven

The author was saying how much a man named Caleb that came out of retirement exasperate him because of his diesel launch. I understand this word because exasperate means to annoy and diesel launches are annoying because of the smoke and pollution they produce.

Urban Artifacts Phase 1

Everywhere you go in New York, you will encounter many things.  A fellow worker rushes to the car and spills coffee in the busy early morning leaving stains on the stable ground.  Got in the car and it wasn’t working due to a gas leak. The car is out of gas! The worker rushes to the train and finally arrives. While changing to his construction work clothes, specks of dusts falls and made its way to the ground. Finally, all dressed and ready to work, he measures the ground and spray painted it ready for construction.

The first three photos are ambiguous because it is unclear of what created the stains, it could be anything that created them. The first stable picture is geometric, the rest of the photos are stable. The last three photos are stable because the photos clearly show the object/figure is. The first stable photo shows inside a building’s speck of dust. The last two photos clearly show they are from a spray paint onto the ground.
