Project #1 Introduction (Final)

 Jingyi Jiao (Jingyi) was born in China, came to US when she was 13 years old. Before she came to live in here, she only know the easiest sentences for greeting just like “hello” or “how are you”. So it took her a hard time and a long period to try to communicates with others. Her English is still improving. Hopefully, she would become voluble and loquacious in English after she graduate college. She graduated from Midwood High School locates next to the Brooklyn College. During the time to make a final decision for the college that she had to enrolled to, she abnegated the Brooklyn College, and chosen City Tech. Jingyi love to draw the manga, to read manga, and to watch anime began from childhood. Even many years later, the passion for it never changed. She determined her future career must to be related to anime and design, such as animator, manga artist, graphic designer, and or the voice actress for anime only. However, these are her occupation insight before this summer. She is now simultaneously interested in creating a film as well. She got this consideration during this summer when she was volunteering at the creative department of a TV station names NTD ( New Tang Dynasty). As a staff volunteer she went for advertising photography for once with an advertisement crew. The director was stylish, voluble, and with  a strong capability of dictating . She was fascinated with that ability, imagined if that was her, she felt to be a director is a right occupation for her to express her creative and direct ability. So now she adds in a new future career in her consideration list which is the director. Apparently, this would be the reason why she was chosen to enrolled to the City Tech, based on the name of the college, New York City College Of Technology, it obviously indicates they do teach a lot about the computer program usage, which means it also includes the graphic design, film editing and animation courses.

        People could see Jingyi’s aesthetic from this avatar. You might think it is a wired avatar, but she doesn’t think so, she feels ordinary with this kind of antic avatar. The appearance of Jingyi’s avatar is a full shot of a Calico cat who’s acting in a humorous funny position. This is an anime Calico cat. He tightly stuck his face on the camera lens that taking a photo of him. He has a big eyes, small mouse, and a huge puffy face. This is a picture from an anime named Natsume’s Book of Friends, which is one of her favorite anime with healing style. By observing the cat from her avatar, he is a Calico cat likes to do the stupid things, and usually fooling around and making trouble. He also likes to eat a lot and fall in sleep for a long time, day by day never reduced, the appetite leads to his body and face shapes become puffy as what you see how he looks like now. He is lazy, crazy, and comical, but he is also friendly, playful, and sensitive.

        Jingyi’s avatar can be considerate in a few different ways. Some people might misunderstand it as her avatar is just showing how comical, silly, and slothful the Calico cat is, but there actually are more tiny contents in this avatar that you haven’t noticed. Avatar, can be said that is people’s inner reflection. Calico cat stuck on the camera lens is not part of his fooling, it can be defined as he pursues to get closer to the others, wants to make friends, wants to help, and wants to encounter with more people. He desired to catch more attention from the people, so he wouldn’t be alone. 

        Jingyi’s complete profile will convey who she is. What is she good at and bad at, what she doesn’t like and does like, what her career goal is, and what her hobby is. She is trying her best to let her classmates and people to know more about her. Her overall life would never live without anime and manga. She’ll be glad if she got a chance to go to Japan, so she could visit the place where Japanese anime produced and met with those amazing manga artists. Jingyi wishes she could visit there in the near future.

Project #1 Introduction (Final)

My name is Brian Mifsud a Maltese American just to clarify Malta is an island in the Mediterranean. I’m a freshman at Citytech but I recently graduated from La Salle Academy. I’m an overall friendly person especially with people I get familiar with. I enjoy using my imagination to think of things that may make good stories or visuals. On my down time my mind tends to wander as I imagine my favorite characters whether they’re from video games or cartoons, in different situations that no one has seen yet in the hopes that someday I may be able to bring those imaginations to life. I really love learning new things especially when it helps me further my artistic abilities. There is so much I don’t know about animation and graphic design but I’m not about to let that stop me. With that knowledge I hope to be able to create amazing worlds and characters where ever I end up so that I may be able to provide entertainment for others. Mainly because I really want to affect people’s lives with what I’m creating whether it’s making somebody laugh or teaching someone an important lesson I feel that with the things I am learning I can accomplish that.  I have been inspired into becoming an animator after finding a company called rooster teeth where I found great animated shows like RWBY, Red vs Blue, and their newest show X-Ray and Vav.

 

The avatar I chose to represent myself is the Achievement Hunter name and logo. It consists of green script lettering for the name Achievement Hunter. The logo itself is a circle with a green star in it, in the middle is a small black joystick which to me symbolizes them being gamers.  This picture means a lot to me because I like all the Achievement Hunters am a gamer I also like to consider myself an unofficial achievement hunter because in games I always try to get all the achievements that the creators put in the game. But also because of Achievement Hunter they’re videos have led me to their main site Rooster teeth. Like I said before the site brought me to animated shows like Red vs Blue and now RWBY these shows have inspired me into becoming an animator because they showed me to do what you love in life with shows like RWBY it shows me that when you’re an animator you can let your imagination run wild and create things you would never be able to otherwise so it helps me become inspired an continue doing what I love which is drawing. They have also showed me the wonders of what animators can bring to life and how they can immerse their audiences in the worlds the created and the characters inhabit it.

 

To others my avatar may be misleading. Most people won’t be able to understand why I have chosen the logo as my avatar. Some may think that I have chosen the picture as my avatar only because I am a fan of Achievement Hunter. Or they may think that I want to work at Achievement Hunter.  But that is only a small part of it. Mainly because to me they have been a huge inspiration to me in terms of what I would like to do with my life after college.

My complete profile will covey that I am very determined and hard working to get what I want. I will not give up on something that I put my mind to accomplish. I tend to express myself either through games or drawing mainly because they are both what I am the best at. I will work as hard as I can until I deem something to be complete so that others will be able to watch, admire, and enjoy my work.

ENG 1101 Project #1 Process

As I was writing my essay I knew what I wanted to include in it because I wanted to put in all the things I thought where important about me that others should know. These things would show how I am in and out of class and how I might translate that to when I am working. When it came time to refining the essay I knew I had to include a better description of my avatar because in my draft I did not describe it as well as I should have. Also I have to rearrange some elements to areas where they are actually relevant to that paragraph. I also had to take out a couple of things. I figured out what to take out of my essay by thinking about what is important and relevant to the essay and what is not relevant. My classmate’s feedback contributed heavily on my work process because I listened to what he had to say and I tried to fix the problems that he saw because I also saw those same problems. I actually spent quite a lot of time brainstorming I had to think of all the things that are important about me but then I had to choose the most important parts about 15 minutes. So i had to choose what to leave in and what to take out, which took about 10 minutes. Not to forget writing up the essay itself which took about 30 minutes. Now I will have to add my revisions to my final product. So overall this project will have taken about an hour.

English 1101 Project #1 Process

In this project I knew what I wanted to include by reading the project description. This project is all about introducing ourselves so I included what I wanted people to know about me, both personally and professionally. I then reread what I wrote and refine it by changing some words, adding new thoughts and take away what is not important. I determine what to eliminate by what I saw as repetitive and what really does not represent me as much. I figured out how to organized my project by the order in which the project task asked, first I introduced myself then I talked about the avatar I chose to represent me, then how others may interpret my avatar in the wrong way, and finally how my profile overall represents me. As my classmate read my work and give me feedback, it helped to improve my work. By reading my class mates work and give them feedback, it helped to me to also improve my work because as I was reading there work, I realized what was missing in my work. I spent approximately 15 minutes brainstorming, 15 minutes, outlining, 40 minutes drafting, 15 minutes revising, 15 minutes polishing. A total of 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Project #1 Introduction (Final)

Jaichan Kirty (Jay) graduated from high school, Hillside Arts and Letters Academy in 2015. He is now nineteen years old and a freshman in college. Jay was born in Guyana but moved to the United States eight years ago. He is a shy and quiet person at first, but when you get to know him that’s when he does not stop talking. Jay major is Graphic Design. He chose this as his major because this is something he really like doing. He likes to express himself by designing what he think of. Jay is very good at computer graphics. He does numerous of designs. For plays, random videos, power points, posters, etc. Many people consider his skill to be graphic designing, although Jay thinks otherwise. Jay claims he does this for “fun” but he is an amazing artist and has a great sense of creativity. His drawing are beyond imaginable. He is also the most caring, most wonderful person you’ve ever met.

Jay is known for his graphic designing on facebook, and what he has done in high school. The administrators at his high school even asked him to create the official website for the school, which he had the honor of doing all by himself. That is something he is very proud of. (https://www.facebook.com/HillsideArtsAndLettersAcademy) He created all the material posted on the page. He is mostly proud of the videos he created for his school. You can watch some of them on the facebook page. Many people tells Jay he’s talented when it come to that. Jay is very passionate about his works, especially graphic designs, his style is random really. He creates whatever inspires him. When you are also down in the dumps Jay is always the one to make you rise like the sun bursting with joy and happiness. Although it may rain on Jays end, he never lets the rainy days get the best of him. He’s smart, fun to be around, likes to mingle and always the one to laugh or make a sound. In five to ten years Jay sees himself owning his own designing company and starting to be known around the country.

The avatar I chose to represent myself is a hot-air-balloon. Firstly this picture of the balloon is not a photograph, it has been graphically designed, which is my passion. This picture means more to me than just it being graphically designed. The balloon is rising in the air just like how I will not give up on something that I put my mind to accomplish. The balloon is rising just like how I like to soar in life. The balloon’s black center represents what experience I yet have to learn. The sky is the limit for me, and even further beyond that. I said I am very creative and as you can see in this picture, it is also very creative. I like how the designer uses the colors to make the subject pop out. This balloon is insulted by itself, just like how I like to be by myself sometimes. I like to work in a peaceful and quiet place with no distractions. This balloon is the only thing recognized in this picture, just like how I like to be recognized also. This is why I choose this subject as my profile avatar.

My avatar could be misleading to some because you really need to dig deep and think deep to understand how it connect to me. People may see this picture and think I like to ride on hot-air-balloons, which I never even tried in my life but something I can see myself doing for fun.

My complete profile will convey that I am a very creative and hard working person. My passion is graphic design and I have a lot of experience is this field already. I will not give up on something that I put my mind to accomplish. I express myself throughout my works because that’s the best way I know how. This matters because if someone is to hire me for a job they need to know that I give my best. I will work day and night if I have to, to give the best product the client will love. They need to know I am very good at what I do and that will give me recommendations and more jobs.

Project #1: (Revised)

Sometimes I wonder to myself, what are people’s usual first impressions about me upon meeting me? What do people assume and infer about me as an individual at a glance? I am a Freshmen here at City Tech. I am 18 years old and I am of Ecuadorian and Salvadorian descent. I live in the Bronx (6 line) and I’ve had a passion for visual arts for as long as I can remember. Ever since I could even speak, I used to always tell my parents how much I wanted to be an “art-teeest” as I used to say it. Growing up i became more and more fascinated in the way art was used to decorate the world around me, and how important it was to so many people in being able to express ideas and imagination. I began to draw and paint every single day. I used to carry my mini sketchbook with me everywhere I went. In it i would have such childish but imaginative and crazy drawings, which till this day, I still possess that free style in my work. I used to beg my parents to take me to the MOMA almost every weekend, after my first time visiting it when i was in first grade. I continued to grow more and more inspired, although when i reached high school, I had dropped my passion for it due to an unexpected tragedy in my family. However, i decided to continue to pursue what i have always known and loved, and i decided to make it my major in college and re-ignite that passion I’ve always had. I aspire to be an animator or a concept artist in the future, and pursue making a living out of what i love to do. I can imagine myself in the future creating beautiful and complex works of concept art, that can potentially be brought to life through a video game or a feature film. THAT is what I want to do, and be successful at. A few years from now, when technology advances even more than it already has, i want to see my name in the credits of the newest blockbuster film or the hottest new video game release. Some words that describe me as a person are Timid, Stubborn, and Adventurous. Though I can be hard headed over small things sometimes, I’m pretty likeable and easy to get along with. I’m always the type to be very timid to speak when I’m around new people, but once you get to know me, I could talk about just about anything for daysss. I also love to discover and travel, and get into new things. Some things I’m into are baseball, DC comic heroes, drawing/creating/writing, anime, science fiction, horror and fantasy books, and traveling. I am more specifically a huge fan of the hunger games series,the Dragonball series, and Halo. I’m also really into Music and the performing arts (more specifically Broadway musicals), as i went to a performing arts high school, where I did many amazing things like be a part of huge concerts and shows, and met many famous music artists, performers, and actors.

 

There are many reasons and aspects as to why I chose this Avatar for my profile. My avatar consists of a piece of concept art created by Bungie Studios, for a video game called Destiny. Its almost like a design or blueprint, so to speak. A concept artist created this character and designed him, before creating it digitally through the game. Looking at the avatar, you can see the detail and information the artist input into these “blueprints”, and the very image he had in his head for this particular character. Not only am i a vivid player of the Destiny video game, but the art and character design in the game are simply fascinating to me. The aesthetic care and imagination that went into creating this “world” is mind blowing. Every time I play i can’t help but think of how amazing it would be to one day create such vivid and fantastical worlds and characters, and have them come to life in such a way. I aspire to be the one to create such concept art, after being inspired for so many years through movies, TV shows and other entertainment media.

Though my Avatar to me is a symbol of the passion I wish to pursue, there can be all types of interpretations as to why I chose it. Knowing a lot of people who are fans of the Destiny video game, anyone of those or other individuals could simply assume i just love the game. There could also be inferences that i have a pinpointed passion for just video games, which is not the case at all. Yes, i do love the game, but my main perspective is the art and passion that went into creating every single aspect of that game. Especially the concept art, which like I mentioned before, is something I’m pursuing to do. Through my entire profile, i wish to relay and make clear what I pursue, and how i plan to get there. I aspire to be the one to create such beautiful and fantastical worlds and characters, and make them come to life. And I will pursue this goal through education in the graphic arts.

Project #1 (Final)

 The way I see it is we are all put in this world for significant reasons. We all have different and unique talents. What we make of it is what matters the most. Whether we had hard times or not, we can all achieve what we want if we put our mind to it. The important thing is to do it the right way. What I would like people to get from my profile is that I am hard working and enjoy doing what I have to do to achieve my goals.
Art back then was not appreciated as much as it is now since it revolves us in many ways. Therefore I feel like there is more ambition to finally have a job we will enjoy for the rest of our lives. As a child learning to draw, I found it interesting how we are able to express ourselves with just a pencil and paper. Not only in drawing but also in writing poetry. I like connecting my art work and poetry a lot, making one relate to the other. One of my personal goals is to have an art gallery with my art and poetry laid out everywhere. I would also like to work with any company or business that will allow me to make their logos with my own design and style. I might have all these years of drawing and painting experience, but I have a lot to learn. I want to learn new techniques and skills. I want to become better at what I thought I already knew.
The reason I chose a lotus flower as my avatar is because it reminds me of myself. As most humans, my road here was very rough and bumpy. I say this because a lotus flower grows through thick heavy mud, which is what my obstacles were pretty much similar to mud. I find myself much more outgoing then before, but I am still a sprouting flower because I have a lot more to learn. My avatar might give that calm and down to earth feeling to some. Which I actually wish was really the case because I find myself trying to find calm time. I live a very rushed and fast pace life, surround by my family and noise all the time. I feel like you can see this in my art work because it is abstract but in a neatly matter. It just represents me trying to control the chaos. I just use this as my unique way of being an artist.
Although it might seem my life is surrounded by just art and responsibilities, I do enjoy having my free time and having fun. I am a big food enthusiast and what I mean by that is that I enjoy trying new foods and making them as well. My current job as a barista allows me to be artistic in a way. I get to make latte art at times, and in cooking I get to experiment with new things, which are all different ways of art too. Adding your own touch to anything makes it unique, which is why I have fun with what I do at work. This is what I want to experience for the rest of my life, doing what I enjoy and having fun with my job while being able to learn new things and please people, all while getting paid.

ENG 1101 Classwork: “Univers Strikes Back”

Today in class, we reviewed our reading, “Univers Strikes Back,” and began to annotate it to reflect what we understood and didn’t understand yet. We highlighted words we wanted to understand better.

We also discussed our drafts of Project #1, taking some time to ask questions and to make a checklist for our final revisions, which are due before the start of class on 9/21.

Project #1 Draft

Hey guys, My name is Tk, is the abbreviation of my name Tsang, Ka Yee. I born in Hong Kong, which is a part of China. Has the different policy of China, “One Country, Two Systems”, is a prosperous and many kinds of culture city. I graduated from Lower East Side Prep High School. I moved to NY around 3 years, so I wanna improve my English as fast as possible, that will be more helpful for my future life. I’m a optimists and quiet person, but when you get to know more about me. You may not think I’m a quiet person, I always non-stop talking and keep to making fun with you. By the way, I’m a typical Gemini girls, because I always capable of displaying different personality traits at different points of time. It doesn’t mean I’m a “melancholy and moody” person. Also, I don’t like to be pinned down by anyone or any rules, always need to experience the world on my own. I think Change and freedom are extremely important to me, will never let anyone dictate me. Sometimes I will turn of  my phone and stay at home, try to give some time for my brain. I love to play the different types of puzzle, is will keep my brain on. My design aesthetic involves a foundation of geometric, I fall in love of the geometric figure. I focus of the relationship and distance between the lines and points, then will create the perfect proportion of geometric.

The appearance of my avatar is black&white color and I use my hair cover my face then look into the left side. My avatar could be misleading because it not really show my face and using the black&white color then it will hard to understand me. That’s like I wanna hide myself and forbid people to know more about me, because of the action and color might make my avatar more mysterious.

My complete profile will convey who I am and my personality. Even though, I know my avatar not exactly show my personality, and still hide something. By the way,  I believe time will show everything if you wanna know more about me.
