This piece portrays what art of the expertise of specialists looks like when its knowledge is accepted by society. One should get the sense of analysis from looking at the piece by the wheels and mixed shades of green. They are being stripped down to express the language of art.
After the attention we paid to subway maps, and all of your focus on color in ADV 1100, how exciting to consider their connection. Read Christine Haughney’s 2011 New York Times article, “Train Line Far From Arrival Has a Color To Be Noticed,” about the color assigned to the still-under-construction Second Avenue Subway Line. What do you think of the choice, and what do you make of others’ reactions to it?
I didn’t want my color wheel to be plain so I started thinking of different candy because candy is colorful. Me and Lorena Gonzalez started brainstorming different candy until we came up with m&m’s, so we drew the animated m&m’s to paint later. I had to get used to mixing the colors just right to get the secondary colors. Making the color purple was the hardest.
