The Paired Color Identities took Cheng and I an hour and a half to finish. We spent a half hour discussing our personality, and what images and color can represent us. The left side is designed by me to express Chen’s freedom (bird) and easiness (muted blue). The right side is designed by Cheng, he wants to express me as an ideologist (gear) and energized (muted orange). In the end, we choose chromatic blue gray to represent our possibility.

At the beginning for project 4, I did not understand the main idea for this project. However, with the introduction of reading the article of “What If You Could Choose between the Fastest Route and the Most Beautiful” I began to understand the purpose of it. In today’s society, I’m similar to most of the people who will ignore their surrounding area, and continually taking to shortest route to the destination. After I begin the project, I began to understand routes can involve with many elements, such as beauty, nature, and quiet. I begin planning my route which to make a detour from the train station to City Tech. Having a spirit of exploring will help me to convince others to take my walk. I believe it is a good experience to develop the project with first-hand experience, because the feeling to immediately come out, and I can use my feeling as references to apply into my project.
At the beginning of the project, I spent 15 to 20 minutes walking the detour from Jay Street Metrotech station to City Tech. The detour is probably 10 – 15 minutes, but I have to take pictures and slowly observing the area, so it takes me little be longer than I expected. With the first-hand experience, I spent approximately one and half hour for the draft. However, after the peer review, I believe I’m missing details about my route. As a result, I researched on Google, but it didn’t come out with many results. However, I’m able to add some of the details with the support from Google, and I also add more viewpoints by taking the detour again. For the final draft, I spend additional one and hour by adding details and editing sentences. Overall, the purpose of the project is to remind me to have a spirit of exploration, so I hope everyone can get this idea by taking my walk and viewing my project.

What route can influence people’s feeling by giving people a sense of beauty, quiet, happiness, history, or nature? These aspects of a route will impact people the way they think, and also influence their feeling while they all were busy with the living. Being busy will always make people ignore surrounding area around them, so they continually take the shortest route to their destination without a spirit of exploration. Taking a short detour from their destination will give people different feelings, and may also impact people’s innermost thoughts. The detour from Jay Street Metro station to City Tech will present aspects of nature and quiet. Walking from a brief detour can give people with different experiences and influence people’s thoughts.
The detour from Jay Street Metro station to City Tech is approximately 10 to 15 minutes longer than the shortest route. However, the detour will relieve people’s stress by enjoying quiet and observing the beauty of nature. Columbus Park will be the main focus on this detour. Before entering Columbus Park, people have to take a brief detour to get to the crossroad. While people passing through this crossroad, they can see there are many stores and tall buildings in the surrounding area. In addition, they also can see there are many transportations coming and going, and pedestrians walking so fast before the traffic light changes its signs. As a result, this scene is similar to everyone. No matter people busy or free from work, they have already fit themselves into a mode of being busy. However, every element in this crossroad will highly enhance every element in Columbus Park. While people passed through this noisy crossroad, there is a path waiting for people to take which the entrance of Columbus Park
When people are slowly moving toward Columbus Park, people will have a different experience. The path is wider than normal pedestrian routes, and trees from each side are blocking noise from the city. As people moving deeply into Columbus Park, people can see there is a giant historical building with Greek-Revival style facade, an artificial garden with grass and flowers, and a classical fountain. While people comparing to the previous crossroad, these things are creating a sense of peaceful and quiet. If people have enough time, people can sit on the stairs of this historical building to read a book or enjoy a lunch. Comparing with the train station and the crossroad, the atmosphere in Columbus Park is quiet and slow. People will slow down their foot step and throw off their annoyance, because the environment in Columbus Park is calming people down.
While people continue moving toward the center of Columbus Park, people will see more trees are located on two sides, and the center is a statue. At this point, while sunlight shining on trees, the beauty of nature is presented in Columbus Park. In addition, the wide walkway will also relieve people’s mind, because it is not as squeezed as other walkways. People can sit down on the benches to enjoy quiet and observe the beauty of nature. With the combination of nature and quiet, Columbus Park is providing a space for people to relax themselves in a busy city. All the annoyance and stress will become smaller, and people will refresh their mind and prepare for the new challenge. The detour to Columbus Park will definitely influence people’s feeling and help them observe how beautiful the surrounding area is.
Columbus Park won’t be considered as a scenic place, however, it is a place that provides tranquility. Before getting into work or school, taking a detour that passes through Columbus Park will inspire people to start a new day. After getting away from tranquility, people will be able to prepare themselves to encounter the challenges, because they have already been relaxed themselves in a serene place. “Like right now, I would love to sit out there and chill” said Travis Debnam, a courthouse staffer from Downtown Brooklyn. Even though Columbus Park is not as beautiful as Central Park, it is a valuable place for people to enjoy quiet in Downtown Brooklyn. Without considering the time, the detour is very worthy to take, because after the detour people will have better emotion. “Columbus Park has the potential to rival the great piazzas of Europe and beyond,” Marty Markowitz, the Borough President. Marty Markowitz is now trying to add different elements into Columbus Park by making a special event such as Greenmarket for farm product. Maybe in the future, Columbus Park will have more aspects and people will visit Columbus Park more often.
In the end, the detour from Jay Street Metro station to City Tech is mainly focused on quiet and part of nature. The main idea of taking the detour is not helping people to see a scenic place instead is providing a quiet place to influence the way of thinking. It is very important for all people to take the detour, because people need a space to relax themselves. The detour can provide unusual experiences if people can visit Columbus Park at different times of different seasons. It is a very simple action to take if people willing to change their attitude to life. Overall, people may have different viewpoints to Columbus Park. However, the detour is already successful, because the hidden meaning for this detour is trying to remind people to have a spirit of exploration in their surrounding area.

Understand:  The word is used when the article said “The Obama administration has drawn criticism for appointing an unusual number of political donors as ambassadors.” which referring political donors are ambassadors. In that sentence, I did not know what it meant until I looked at up its meaning in the dictionary. Now, I understand the word ambassador is an official envoy sent by a government. In the end, I had no clue what the word meant until I actually looked up, but it is a simple word to comprehend.

Understand:  The word is used while Oxford University Professor Phillip Goulder said “One of the quintessential features of HIV is its ability to mutate and evade the best things we can throw at it” which refer to the typical feature of the basic feature that HIT virus has. In that sentence, I can see the word quintessential can describe something’s for typical or basic, however, I’m confused by another definition such as “of the pure and essential essence of something.” In the end, I find above definition is much easy to comprehend, and not twisting the meaning of the word.

The Swiss poster took me an hour to finish in the class. Before actually doing the poster on Adobe illustrator, I and Richard were thinking the name for the brand. In addition, we are using cool colors on the poster. In the end, I changed the color to blue, because I believe blue can express the feeling of cold, and I use the pure white color to make the brand name standout from the background.
