Homework: Introduction

Not real good with introductions. Hey, my name is Damany Wallace. I grew up in The Bronx, but moved out in 2007. I now reside in Valley Stream, Long Island and Iā€™ve lived there for almost 8 years. I live with my parents, who are both in the medical field,Ā  and brother, whoā€™s a junior in high school. Iā€™m a junior at City Tech and major in computer engineering. Initially, I majored in mechanical engineering, but lost interest and switched to CET in 2012.

In my free time, I love watching movies. I try to view at least 100+ a year.I enjoy sci-fi and horror films the most. Alien, Aliens, Fargo and Halloween are some of my all-time favorites. Video games have been a major part of my life growing, but for the past couple years, I kinda lost interest and find myself playing a couple hours every couple week or so. When I do play, I enjoy baseball, The Last of Us and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim. I’m not a super sports fan, but I enjoy watching football (college football a bit more than pro football) and hockey. My favorite sport that I’m pretty much obsessed with and intrigues me the most is Mixed Martial Arts. I currently practice Muay Thai kickboxing and it is definitely the best thing going on in my life right now. I trained at my local gym for a couple weeks during the summer and knew I had to stick with it. I’ve been going there on and off ever since and hopefully,Ā  when I find a better job, I could start training there on a weekly bases, opposed to a once every couple months. Disregarding the punches and/or head kicks, itā€™s such a stress relieving activity and helps clear my mind. I’m interested in having some amateur bouts in the future, hopefully by the end of the year or early 2016.

Story of an Hour/ A Jury of Peers

In the story “The Story of an Hour”, Mrs. Mallard seems shocked and devastated to hear the news of her husband’s death. When she takes a moment alone to process the news, that she is no longer part of a union that may have defined her until present moment, a feeling opposite of despair begins to take hold within her. Excitement and wonder of the fact that she will be able to live, and be for just herself without the duties and limitations of marriage overwhelm her, and propel within her a feeling of elation.”There would be no one to live for during those coming years; she would live for herself”. Through the narrators tone, that is the impression that Mrs. Mallards reaction, and thoughts seem to convey.Ā There is no doubt that she mourns the loss of her husband Ā and describes in a pleasant light. “When she saw the kind, tender hands folded in death; the face that had never looked saved with love upon her”. But she cannot contain the exhilarationĀ and optimism of living for herself, and the feeling alone makes her physical aliment of a weak heart, all but feel invigorated. At the news that her husband has not died, and in fact, still lives, she is but all devastated. It is this devastation and realization that the life she envisioned for herself is gone in an instant and ends up weakening her heart, and sending her to her untimely death. “When the doctors came they said she had died of heart disease–of the joy that kills”. It is not the joy that killed her, but in fact, the sadness.

In Ā “A Jury of Her Peers”, Mrs. Wright has killed her husband. It seems that the marriage was turbulent and unhappy.Ā Mrs. Hale alludes to the fact the Mrs. Wright was once young, vibrant and beautiful. Mr. Wright quelced her of spirit and happiness. She no longer sang, and even her clothes were described as “shabby”. It appears the Mr. Wright killed Mrs. Wrights bird, therefore robbing her of her one singular joy, and in a fit of despair and rage, she broke his neck as he had her bird’s. In comparison to “The Story of An Hour”, both women, marriages and relationships are different, yet both feel relief at the death of their husbands.

About Me

I have seen a lot of blog post from many different type of sites that talk about what interest the blog creator likes, but this is the first time for me to actually write a blog post. I am in my final semester of City Tech and i hope that i can have a great semester so i can graduate when summer comes around.

I am Computer Engineering Technology student at City Tech and currently taking my final classes. I enrolled into this major because I liked to fix electronics since i was in High School, so the computer engineering major was perfect for me because i thought that it would teach me more in depth about thing that relate to computer. After taking all the classes for computer engineering technology, i have learned many new things that i did not know such as the many different programming languages ( C, C++, Java, etc). Even learning the programming languages, I am not good at coding at all. I would more prefer to work with the hardware parts over the software parts for computers because there can be many problems that can happen with software that can not be solved. I would like to find a job that involves anything related to computers beside programming.

As time goes on, I would like to travel around the world because i would like to see the many different type of food, culture, people, etc that is out there. I would like to work in a foreign country because i would be able to experience the culture better then just visiting many places for a few days.

A Little of Me

I’ve never blogged before, so i think this is how it goes. I am truly out of my element here i can write about anyone, but when it comes to myself that’s the hard part. My name is Tariana (Ta-ri-ana). Ā I re-admitted to city tech this semester after taking a few years off due to having a child (fyi who happens to be under me playing with his cars as i type, ” I’m not distracted at all”). I’ve changed my major a few times already i’m currently in Liberal Arts and Sciences. Here’s a little of me in a few words.

I started in city tech at the age of 19 as a nursing major, I wanted to follow my grandmothers steps and help others. At 20 i lived on my own found a job at a doctors office, it was an experience that i’ll never forget because shortly after i changed my major. I then went and transferred Ā to accounting major. I thought I finally found my calling since i’mĀ one of thoseĀ annoyingĀ people that think in numbers. Numbers not word problems and charts so that was a bust. (fast forward) That brings me to today starting my degree to become a math teacher. I found my career path, that’s it no more changes. I hope!!!

Besides trying to be a successful student i’m just a mom. Extra curricular activities does that include play dates, jungle gyms and nightly readings, I hope so. I’m interested in anything that makes my loved ones smile. My significant other is a football fanatic. Back when we started i couldn’t have cared less. It was men in tights going after something i couldn’t even see. But his excitement when a man went past the white line for every 10 yards. I knew there had to be more it so i engaged in research my handy dandy Google. Thanks to fast definitions and pictures I know whats going on and when to smile and get excited. That’s my type of fun hearing my 2 year old say daddy touchdown. Here’s to a good positive semester and my first blog about myself.

A Peek Into My Life

Hello everyone. Thereā€™s not genuinely much I can say about myself, so I guess Iā€™ll just start with the basics. My name is Imran and I was born and raised in Queens. Food is my best friend, and it never disappoints me. To pass time, I usually end up listening to music, watching movies, and Iā€™m an enthusiast of numerous TV shows. I honestly donā€™t know how I find enough time in a week to watch all the shows that Iā€™m addicted to. These activities are ways for me to de-stress.

I’m a computer engineer technology student in my 3rd year here at City Tech. While I was in my sophomore year in high school, I was studying a list of college majors. I practically lived on a computer at the time, so I considered choosing a major that was computer related. Computer science caught my attention at first, so I looked into it. After I realized it involved a lot of programming, coding, etc. I assumed that this wouldā€™ve been challenging for me to do. Another major which interested me was computer engineering. I apprehended that computer engineering dealt with computer science, but not to a full extent. It deals also with hardware. I thought that this was the perfect major for me, and here I am pursuing my goal to be a computer engineer! I would like to work in an organization dealing with computer hardware, where I would have to actually build or fix computers.

One randomĀ interesting thing about me is that I love to travel. I certainly enjoy visiting new places, experiencing various environments other than New York. Donā€™t take this the wrong way.Ā  Although I love New York, and Iā€™ll always be a New Yorker at heart, but this world is full of fascinating places. I guess you could say itā€™s a dream of mine to travel the world, perhaps around the world in 80 days? Possibly in the future, if I have an advantageous job and adequate vacation time.

Ungainly

Ungainly (adjective): 1. a. lacking in smoothness or dexterity:Ā  clumsy b. hard to handle:Ā unwieldy 2. having an awkward appearanceĀ (Merriam-Webster)

Found on Paragraph 10, Page 263 of ā€œA Jury of Her Peersā€–>ā€œThe county attorney was looking at the cupboard — a peculiar, ungainly structure, half closet and half cupboard, the upper part of it being built in the wall, and the lower part just the old-fashioned kitchen cupboard.ā€

I believe the word in this quote means that Mr. Hale (the attorney) found that the Wrights cupboards were crafted poorly, making them fragile looking and awkward in shape and appearance.
