Beloved

I decided to make a video on what i think is the most critical passage of the novel Beloved, by Toni Morrison. Sethe, and the rest of the men of Sweet Home live’s were changed from the moment that Mr.Garner died and Schoolteacher was introduced into their lives. Sethe was hurt with scars left on her body, raped by Schoolteacher’s nephews and milk stolen from them. Sethe had to protect her unnamed child from the life it would have being a slave to Schoolteacher. The men of Sweet Home endured pain , embarrassment and death from Schoolteacher while their stay at Sweet Home. I believe that if Mr. and Mrs. Garner were in charge , the outcome would’ve been different than what the novel ended up to be.

Pg.44
“Mr.Garner was dead and his wife had a lump in her neck the size of a sweet potato and unable to speak to anyone. She leaned as close to the fire as her pregnant belly allowed and told him, Paul D, the last of the Sweet Home men. There had been six of them who belonged to the farm, Sethe the only female. Mrs.Garner, crying like a baby, had sold his brother to pay off the debts that surfaced the minute she was widowed. Then Schoolteacher arrived to put things in order. But what he did broke three more Sweet Home men and punched the glittering iron out of Sethe’s eyes, leaving two open wells that did not reflect firelight.”

  1. This video is moving, jocelynjv. Can you include a list of your sources? I recommend using materials that have a Creative Commons licence with attribution–that allows you to use them as long as you give them credit. Otherwise, someone who has created the image or music can ask you to take down your material, which would be really unfortunate since you’ve done such a great job.
