"The Saw Blood"

“This here Sethe talked about love like any other woman; talked about baby clothes like any other woman, but what she meant could cleave the bone. This here Sethe talked about safety with a handsaw.”(Pg 88)

“Denver thought she understood the connection between her mother and Beloved: Sethe was trying to make up for the handsaw; Beloved was making her pay for it.”(Pg 131)

  1. Wow, Urgyen–that’s a powerful image of the tool Sethe used to kill her daughter. Which passage specifically are you representing? I see you have the words “saw blood” and wonder if you’re making a pun with the word saw since it can mean both a cutting tool and the past tense of see. Could you incorporate the passage in your image in any way? what if the words were a layer underneath the graphic image?
