Cinderella

UThe story I read was not on the list. It is simply titled ” Chinye:A West African Cinderella story”.First and foremost I have to say I really enjoyed this story,I found it very refreshing and insightful. Basically the story is about a girl named chinye whose father had remarried to a nasty lady. This lady hated chinye becuase she resembled her mother, and so this lady would send her to do all the dirty work. One night the lady had an idea she sent her step daughter to go get water from the river. The girl went and saw that the lions were drinking and she was terrified but she was also terrified of her stepmother who frequently beat her. Just as all hope seemed to be lost she was helped by a pink flamingo who brought her to an elderly lady who gave her jewels in the form of something else. The girl brought the jewels home  and her nasty step mother stole them, she sent her other daughter to get the jewels but she came back with a nasty surprise instead. The only reason the stepdaughter got the jewels and the daughter of the nasty step mother got the nasty surprise is becuase the step daughter was pure and followed directions. In comparison with Disneys Cinderella there is that same idea about purity. The only real reason Cinderellas foot fit the slipper was becuase she was pure and her step sisters were nasty and evil. However I like both versions and Disneys Cinderella is an all time favorite classic of mine.
