Sources I am using for my opinion essay:
This is great, Jaz! For your essay, please include the full citation for each source. Use the citation style that your field uses. A quick Google search can tell you what your field uses. Mine (English literature) usually uses MLA or Chicago. Once you know the citation style you’re using, you can use a citation guide like the one on our college library’s site to draft your citations.
1. New York State Comptroller Report (osc.ny.gov)
This source provides official statistics on homelessness in New York. It helps show that homelessness has increased significantly in recent years and supports the claim that the lack of affordable housing is a major cause. Using a government source makes the argument more credible and fact-based.
2. The City (thecity.nyc)
This article explains problems within the supportive housing system, such as why many people who qualify still don’t get housing. It helps support the idea that there is not enough affordable housing available, even for those in need.
3. NYC Government Website (nyc.gov)
This source provides information on city efforts and housing programs. It helps show that while the government is trying to address the issue, current solutions are not enough to meet demand, strengthening the argument that more action is needed.
4. NYC Homeless Services / Spending Reports (osc.ny.gov – additional report)
This source explains how much money the city spends on homelessness and shelters. It supports the claim that investing in affordable housing could be more effective long-term than spending billions on temporary shelter systems.See this comment in context.

Sources used for my opinion essay:
U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics
This source provides official government data about jobs, industries, and employment growth in New York. I used it to support my point that New York has a strong and diverse job market with many opportunities across different fields.
Migration Policy Institute
This is a research organization that studies immigration in the United States. I used it to support my argument that immigrants play a major role in New York’s workforce and are able to find job opportunities and stability in the city.
City University of New York (CUNY)
This source explains educational opportunities for students in New York. I used it to show how young people, especially those who are unsure about their future, can explore careers and get affordable education through CUNY programs.
Pew Research Center
This is a nonpartisan research organization that studies social and economic trends. I used it to support my counterargument that even though New York is expensive, people still move there because of long-term opportunities and career growth.
NYC & CompanyThis is New York City’s official tourism and marketing organization. I used it to support my point about how New York’s diversity and industries create constant exposure to new opportunities, people, and career paths.
