In today’s class we going over the following:

  • Module 02 – Final – In class pin-up: Plan, Section and Axonometric 30°, 60° Detail at scale 1/2″=1′-0″
  • Reading #8 ; Group 2: Structural Forces and components
  • Pin-Up Presentations between groups
  • Class Vote
  • Intro to Module 03

Pin-Up Presentations between groups

There are 4 groups in the class, and the class will be split into two sections.

For example:

Group 01 and Group 02 will work together, one group will be the presenters, and the other will act as the reviewer jury.

Presenter Group

Each student will have about 5 minutes to introduce their drawings. Please make sure to talk about:

  • The line weight hierarchy you used
  • Your drawing composition
  • The wall assembly components
  • Any challenges you faced
  • Lessons learned during the process

Reviewer Jury Group

The reviewer group will act as a jury panel, asking questions and providing feedback. Your role is to:

  • Ask about the components and composition of the drawings
  • Highlight missing elements
  • Provide constructive critique: point out the issue AND give a suggestion for improvement
  • Comment on techniques or tips to help improve drawing quality
  • Analyze the line weights, scale, title block, and clarity of the drawings

Class Vote

You will then vote for 3 individuals who you think produced the best work in class. Be critical and analytical with your vote, look at line weights, clarity, composition

Intro to Module 03

To read a wide flange beam size, use the “W” followed by the nominal depth in inches, then an “x” and the weight in pounds per foot

Ex:

W21x111

For Module 03,

You will work with the scenario of being hired to design and coordinate the construction of a second-floor area measuring 80′-0″ x 30′-0″.

The client has selected a composite steel system consisting of a 3″ “Corrugated Metal deck sheet” , reinforcing mesh, shear studs, and a concrete slab. The new floor height is set at 18′-0″, supported by W21x111 wide-flange columns. As the architect, you are responsible for selecting the most efficient girder and beam sizes with not more than 30ft of length max , You will also need to determine the appropriate concrete slab thickness and design and detail the appropriate base connection for the columns.

This module requires you to analyze the structural system, choose components, and present clearly through drawings, annotations, and calculations.

Required Drawings

  1. Plan view -Structural Steel Grid, fully annotated W/ calculations
  2. Structural Components (in section)
  • Columns: Steel Wide Flange
  • Girders: Steel
  • Beams: Steel
  • Composite Floor: Corrugated Metal Deck and Poured Concrete

3.Axonometric 30°, 60° or 45°, 45° detail

  • All drawings fully annotated and with a title block
  • (You choose the scale that best shows clarity and detail for the work you want to present)
