Instructional Design

For the past 4 years, I have lead library instruction design activities and overseen a Perkins Funded Instructional Design internship. This work involves creating online instructional tools including tutorials and research guides to support students. I collaborate with faculty on resource content and to assess and promote the materials we create. As a result of these efforts, the library has developed a suite of tools including a library orientation site to support student information literacy and we have conducted a number of user experience studies to learned more about student research needs and information seeking behaviors.

In Spring 2019, we realized a project to automatically integrate subject specific library research guides into Blackboard. All students can now access a discipline specific research guide without leaving their course. This year we will conduct some targeted assessment of faculty in consultation with the First Year Writing Program and the Student and Faculty Library Advisory Committee to gain feedback on the integration and to develop a plan for future instructional design efforts. I am also working with the OpenLab development team to explore opportunities for discipline-level integration within that platform.
