John enjoys riding his electric scooter to school, to the grocery store and sometimes he cruises around having fun. One thing that he does not like about the scooter is that the battery runs out quickly, so he asked his parents to get him a new one with an extended battery life. he didn’t get a favorable response from his parents, so he kept riding his low range electric scooter till one day he saw a commercial of the bigger electric scooter that seemed to run for 30 miles on a single charge. John saved most of his money and bought the scooter. He was very happy with the performance. he went to group rides downtown Manhattan a few times with people who have various electric scooters, electric skateboards, and electric bikes. He even learned how to do tricks on it although it was clearly advised not to by the manufacturer. One day after the group ride, he headed home very excited that the scooter was able to run over 20 miles and still have a lot of charge left. He connected the charger to the scooter, turned on his computer as usual and started enjoying YouTube videos in his bedroom. the scooter was plugged up in the living room unattended. About 30 minutes later he heard his mum screaming his name and he rushed into the living room and found that the scooter burst into flames and the fire was taking over the living room. It was a messy living room and they recently dried laundry and hard it all over the place. The fire quickly took over, caught the curtains, and John was overwhelmed. He did not know what to do, he went to one of the rooms grabbed a bucket ran to the bathroom ran water in it rushed it back to the living room in a desperate way to take out the fire, but Lithium-ion battery fire is insane, water will often make the fire worst. In less than a minute him and his mother had hard time seeing in the room because of the smoke, John realized that he cannot fight to fire but couldn’t just get away. Due to the panic, none of them even thought of dialing 911 for help. They both got out of the house and John realize that he left his phone in his bedroom and hard to rush back to get it so they can call 911. Everything felt like a nightmare and John thought that he would wake up in the moment, but this never happened he couldn’t even make a perfect complete sentence to explain through the phone what the emergency was about, he was nervous and scared. this was John’s first time calling the emergency, he could not hear a word of what he was being asked due to the noises, the sirens of the fire alarms in the building, and he had to run to the staircase in order to make the call. He always thought that the firefighters always get the place in one minute but by the time the fire truck pulled up everything in the living room was gone. He was out of breath and very upset. The whole time, his mother kept telling him not to worry about the stuff. She was just glad that they were both safe.

The firefighters busted every single window broken took out the fire and isolated the remains of the scooter. John was in the staircase with his mother talking to a police officer explaining what happened. There was water on the floor everywhere. In their apartment, they cut the electricity and the water, then they were given information on how to get a place to stay momentarily. This experience traumatized John and he always think about is it whenever he sees an electric scooter. Things went back to normal after a couple of months, their apartment was fixed, they have lost many belongings from the fire, but his family was glad that nobody was hurt, and John wasn’t interested in scooters anymore.
