In the story readers can see that there were a few themes the readers can talk about. The crossing of the bridge was a symbol of the main character obtaining his freedom from his own brother’s enslavement. It was hard to believe that his own family is the one who elslaved him. The author had the ability of evoking a sense of empathy in his readers but I am still unsure if the narrator is just using slavery as a symbolism or if he was really a slave.

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!

I liked how Carlon, States the meaningful meaning of “crossing of the bridge” defining and symbolizing his freedom from his own brother’s enslavement. It’s hard to believe that you can’t even trust your own family, sometimes the greatest enemy is beside you. In this case, the author’s own family.
