What I liked about Gurba’s story is the how much expression she puts towards her words in the story. Not often I see stories that use such terrible language but it is stories like those that can express the emotions of characters clearly. The details even described such tragic events that happened to people. When the narrator talked about passing an english exam, the teachers assumed the narrator was cheating. Even talking about how the roommate chooses to wear her clothes as a source of entertainment goes to show you how messed up people are in this world. I also found it interesting how she uses the word messiah. To others messiah could have a positive meaning but to the narrator it was a completely different meaning. How would the story be different if there was someone there to assist the narrator in that kind of cruel world? How does the narrator have the courage to keep moving forward in such a terrible setting?

Office Hours: Tuesdays and Thursdays, 11:30 AM – 12:30 PM. I’ll be available through Zoom and will send an invitation via email that you should keep all semester. Try to join my meeting at the start of the hour, not at the end—since I may be talking to other students or have another appointment after the hour is up. If those times don’t work with your schedule, we can schedule a different time. This means you’ll have to schedule an appointment in advance. I suggest you have multiple times in mind, since your schedule may not mesh with mine!

I agree with you this reading has so many expressions, and the language she used showed her emotions, and the things that were done and said to her were cruel and nasty.
