Poem: Still I Rise by Maya Angelou

https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poems/46446/still-i-rise

This poem is about the empowerment of black women. I found this poem a few years ago when I was doing my research on the Black Lives Matter movement. I read it and fell in love. because I could relate to it so much. As black woman, I’ve had some really nasty things said to me by some people. However, I try to not let it bother me. This poem is saying that no matter what’s said to me, I’ll still rise. People’s words can’t hurt her.

Angelou’s style of poetry is bold, no matter how many times people bring her down she’s never defeated. Powerful.

He tone was almost like she was above those that looked down on her.
