Maria Mateo, Tsunami Rising

I really like listening to Chin’s poem  “Tsunami Rising”. She has a  very powerful message about black women racism throughout the centuries.  She deepens her message with the use of feeling and emotion contained in the poem. I really like how authentic she was sharing her message without filters that  makes anyone  get engaged with her tone of voice.  I like one part when she says that she told her daughter that “ your whole body belongs to no one but you”. I believe that with this poem she was trying to stand up for every single black woman that feel less deserve and that have been through bad moments just for being dark skin.

    Hello Maria,

Like Angelica, I too agree with everything you said. Through her tone and word choices, it was clear to feel the hurt she was feeling and how strongly she feels about the topic she was discussing.

    Hello Maria,
I like how you mentioned when she said “your whole body belongs to no one but you,” she is a great feminist and makes herself clear how it is unjust and terrible to treat a woman especially black women to feel non-worthy and less. I enjoyed every single word she used because it was all a painful truth

Hey Maria, I can also agree with your review that Chin did a good job on expressing her feelings through these powerful words to the listeners. What women we’re going through is not fair, Chin held her position confidently.

Hey Maria, I also liked the part where Chin mentions the lessons she has taught her daughter. It makes the poem feel much more personal.

    Hi Maria,
I agree with you what you said about how the poet really expresses what she was feeling without and fear and hesitation. The way the poet talks about it, shows that she has been storing all these feelings inside her for a long time.

Hello Maria, great response. I too agree with you that she brings awareness to the issues of black women’s rights beings overlooked in society. Her tone during the recitation helps portray this message because she shares her views with a loud voice. The audience can feel her anger through her tone. This lets us understand the importance of this issue.

Hey Maria, I agree with the way that you express how fearless Chin came out while reading this piece. And the way that she was able to show her feelings she has been and how she was able to show her feelings towards black women while still empowering them.

    Hi Maria,
I agree with you that Chin used her no filters to deliver the message as natural as possible with all the rage and the anger it requires. I think her delivery was the best to address the issue discussed with is racism and sexism together. such a strong and sensitive issue like this requires and strong delivery to provoke emotions.

The authenticity of the poem was one of the best things about it for me. Even though she brings up that she was speaking with her daughter when she said that her(the daugher) body belongs to her, it is clear Chin is saying that for all black women, whose body society has tried to control for so long

Hi Maria, I agree with what you said about Chin’s way of telling the poem was very authentic. Chin’s poem spoke to a lot of people that dealt with oppression and racism in their life.
