Angelica Salazar, Chin’s poem

As I watched and listening to the video of Staceyann Chin reading ā€œTsunami Risingā€, I felt chills through my body, I thought the way she used the tone in her voice to convey the words written made the poem a powerful statement. I loved the poem because it brought up many facts about the racial injustice that many black women have faced and continue to face at the hands of “white men, black men, and white women alike.” She expressed her rage against the said injustices and that she is tired of black women being in the shadows, tired that many black women are used as a “universal punching bag”.

Hi Angelica, I agree with you, I like how her poem was factual and informative. Her performance and her word choice are great. She was able to speak out on an issue she and others face.

    Hi Angelica

I agree with you that her word choice and tone made her message a powerful one. I believe her tone and word choices made the message of her touching.

Angelica, great response. I too agree that Chinā€™s anger is derived from the lack of awareness and rights present for women of color. It hurt me when she stated that black women are punching bags in society. However, her depiction is true. Black women are deprived of the recognition and rights that are available to white women. They donā€™t have access to resources that can help build their futures that white women have.
