Meet My New Apartment

A girl, growing up in a different culture; I was always thrilled to be able to move out and live away from the family. I knew I would need to work very hard to have my own space. I have always imagined how I was going to decorate my own house, paint it different colors and change its style accordingly. I have been always a fan of kitchen tools and decorations and I wanted my own kitchen that I can enjoy cooking in. I wanted a quite large beige dining table so I can invite my friends over for lunch or dinner. My dream is finally a reality!

I recently was able to move out and be independent with my own free space. I was very worried about how to start on our own at first; financial and procedural wise. I did not know what to do, what to buy, where to find furniture, and how much it will cost. I started to buy my furniture little by little. I am currently looking for an affordable beige dining set to put in my living room beside a big and comfy gray or beige couch to create the apartment I have always dreamed of. The apartment I moved in is simple with a reasonable space that is perfect for me, and most importantly, it is mine to make it my home. It has three bedrooms and a living room which is perfect for me and my sister who moved out with me. We bought the beds, two small coffee tables, a beige carpet, and drawers. Luckily, the closets are part of the bedrooms so we did not have to buy that. I buy something every week or so; a furniture piece or a kitchen tool.

By now, I am just getting to know the apartment and get used to it; to the sound the doors make when I open them, to the lights of my bedroom when I am up at night doing school work, and to the friendly noise I hear everyday coming from outside as my neighbors do their daily activities. Some days I am off from work, I prefer to stay in my apartment; I could feel my heart getting warmer in a sense of safety and accomplishment.  I am making it my home little by little and I get excited every time I come back from work knowing that my home is waiting for me.

Marina, your piece screams independency and I love it! Congratulations to you and your new apartment! What colors are seen within your apartment? Is it monotone like the beige carpet or some pop of color?

It is great you accomplished getting your first apartment. That is definitely a difficult goal living in New York due to how expensive it is. It is also great to see you have your sibling as a roommate. How is it living with your sister?
